Hi people,

I have a massive problem which pains me for months. I tried everything I could but I just cannot fix this.

I have a UE55NU8000 Samsung TV and a PC (RTX 2080ti GPU) connected via HDMI cable. Using Windows 10

I did set desktop resolution to 4096 x2160 which is how I want it to be. Colors are vivid and everything is sharp. If I switch to 3840 x 2160 colors get washed out and the screen get blurry.

If I play games and the same resolution as the desktop is fine, but if I try to play a game which has different resolution then the desktop as soon I close the game desktop gets buggered up and switches to something. The edges of the screen get cut off and start menu disappears to oblivion forever.

The resolution stays 4096x2160 according to settings but it is all messed up.

Even if I restart the computer it will stay the same, even if I try manually switch back to 3840x 2160 and back to 4096x2160.
The only way to resolve it is to disconnect the HDMI cable from the television while the PC and the TV is on and plug it back in. Which obviously not good for the hardware.
I did not have this problem with my old setup, I could play games with different resolution than the desktop and it did leave the desktop resolution alone. This is quite a big problem because a lot of games are not supporting 4096x 2160 and if I wanna play desktop gonna die. I got to the point I am not playing with some of my favorite games anymore because of this. I tried to force resolution via Geforce panel, same result. I tried swapping the HDMI slots, didn't change anything.

Is there any kind of solution to this? What is wrong? Please halp.

I had a look, yes 3840 seems a bit washed out, but the biggest problem is that something is wrong with 4096.
It works, as long as the game can be run in 4096, no issues at all. Older games, different resolution that messes up my desktop for good. The main issue is that desktop gets rekt and it won't recover.
For me it seems the problem with compatibility or maybe win 10 is playing up.

Are you sure your cable is up to spec? You may have mentioned that....

It might not, I was think about that. I am using my old cable from my 1080 setup, probably it is 3-4 years old. What kind of cable I would need for this setup?
If I disconnect the cable that can solve the issue, like if it would reset the whole thing. The problem must be there somewhere...

Ok so I checked it, this what I have
Ultra HDTV Premium 4K UHD High Speed HDMI 2.0 Cable 3m [HDMI Premium Certified], 18 Gbps, 4K@60Hz, 2160p, 4096x2160-4K UHD HDMI 2.0b cable

bought it in 2017 march, is it possible that it is not compatible? It is working, games are working, just resolution gets buggered up. Can it be caused by an outdated HDMI cable?
