Question Cyberpunk 2077, jittery, static-like artifacts around container outlines

I'm experiencing a very strange graphical artifact that affects the blue outlines/highlights around containers and items that can be picked up.

I've also uploaded a gif that clearly demonstrates the issue at https://giphy.com/gifs/LPZxSXdeWE12MgSSAa .

As you can see, the outline around the suitcase has static-like artifacts around the entire edge, and this issue affects every container and item that's highlighted in this way.

I have already tried to enable, disable or change every single possible graphics setting both in game and in the NVIDIA profile, along with resolution, monitor refresh rate, and so on. The only 'workaround' that somehow fixes the issue is completely disabling antialiasing in the \engine\config\platform\pc\user.ini file, but it's not really an acceptable fix as it severely degrades the overall visual quality of the game.

I have tried disabling DLSS upscaling, frame generation, RT, setting every possible toggle to low and/or high, disabling GSync, switching DLSS DLLs with DLSS Swapper, fiddling with almost every NVIDIA profile inspector settings, but the issue doesn't seem to be mitigable at all.

My system:

- AMD Ryzen 7800X3D
- ASRock X670E Steel Legend
- ASUS 4070 Super Dual OC
- 64 GB G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 6000

NVIDIA driver version is 566.36. Cyberpunk 2077 version is 2.21, the latest one.

Does anyone experienced such an issue and was able to somehow solve it?

The thin blue outline is certainly "part of the game", yes. That's a given.

The jagged, fuzzy, static-like visual artifact that surrounds the outline itself, clearly visible in motion in the animated GIF I provided here https://giphy.com/gifs/LPZxSXdeWE12MgSSAa, is certainly NOT "part of the game" but may indicate that something is very, very wrong with anti aliasing somehow.
Seriously? I don't want to be mean but if you can't enjoy the game because of this then maybe video games are not for you. And I'm pretty sure it's an effect added by the devs to make it look like some sort of static-like distortions from V's cyber-vision. And even if it wasn't, it's not like it's so distracting that it ruins the experience. I...
I am not a gamer per se (full disclosure) but I am aware that many games somehow (one way or another) call attention to a game related item that is relevant in some manner to game play.

If the highlighting is only cosmetic - ignore it.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

The issue isn't the highlighting itself, but the extremely annoying graphical artifacts around it. They are very visible and quite hard to ignore.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

BIOS version for your motherboard? You state being on driver version 566.36 for your RTX4070 Super, have you tried other driver revisions?
566.36 is the latest Nvidia driver without issues. Any driver versions that came after that don't fix problems, they break things especially for the 40 series cards. Game developers recommend people to use 566.36 and Gamers Nexus made a whole video recently about that, begging Nvidia to fix their s***. So please stop telling Nvidia users to update their drivers, it's the worst advice you can give right now, at least until Nvidia fixes the problem.

I'm currently on BIOS 3.10, and I'm unwilling to update to the latest one (3.20) as it allegedly causes compatibility issues with my specific memory kit. I've tried with the latest NVIDIA driver, 572.83, but the issue persists so I've removed it with DDU and reinstalled 566.36, which is the suggested version for RTX 4000 GPUs.

I have performed a clean installation with NVCleanstall and I have NOT installed the NVIDIA App. Ansel and MPO are disabled.

I can't really fathom how this could be anything but a game bug or a very specific anti-aliasing driver issue, as there are no other glitches or artifacts anywhere in the game.

Even with DLSS (preset K, DLL version 310.2.1.0), RTX and FG on, the one and only visual glitch I can see is this specific one. No issues in any other game.

Did you try FSR? Sometimes it helps to fix things like this. I had terrible flickering and artefacts in Hogwarts Legacy with DLSS and switching to FSR fixed everything.

Yes, the issue persists even with FSR enabled, or frame generation completely turned off.

I've also attempted to randomly toggle every possible Anti-Aliasing setting with NVIDIA Profile Inspector, but I believe the game engine ignores those settings and simply uses its TAA implementation.

Again, turning off anti-aliasing in the user.ini file solves the issue, but the game visual quality takes too much of a hit without AA.

@Malber

"Annoying graphical artifacts" is subjective.

Do you want to see the objects? Yes or No?

Does it really mattter if seeing the objects is pretty?

Games?

= = = =

I have no control over what my house smoke detectors sound like when they alarm.

I just want the smoke detectors to work and sound alarms.

Game annoyances (for my life at least) are at the far bottom of life's realities.

Forget the annoyance.

Nothing is perfect for everyone or everything.

Just play and enjoy.

Wait a minute, are you talking about this luminous outline surrounding objects you can search to pick up stuff? This is totally normal. The devs put that around those objects to tell you that you can interact with them. I see it too. You are trying to "fix" something that is part of the game.

I launched the game yesterday and it took me almost 5 minutes to find one of those things and it was exactly like what you showed in your GIF (see screenshot below). You are fighting against a game effect.

You're.. actually.. right. I couldn't believe my eyes when I watched a few gameplay videos and every single lootable container and corpse had the same exact effect I believed it was a visual glitch. It's really a game effect and it's displayed as intended by the developers.

I'm at a loss for words, but thank you nonetheless for your patience.

No problem! Have fun with this wonderful game!
