I have been using my Cyborg R.A.T. 5 mouse for about 6 months and it has been one of the best mice that I have eve owned. Everything has been good until recently. I have been having this problem with my mouse: the cursor would freeze up every now and then for now good reason. When I try to move my mouse it would move a bit and then stop. Then it would do it again until it would drive me crazy. Sometimes if I plug another mouse into my computer it would work, at least for awhile. I have reinstalled they drivers and everything like that. I have did a system restore a couple of days back before the problem had started. I know recently that I did install some Nvidia driver 275. something. I don't think that would be the case. Right now this thing is gonna stay unused. Any feedback would be great.

I have the exact same problem with the RAT 7 on Windows 7. My motherboard (which I hold partly responsible) is an MSI P67-GD65. I found that I solved the problem by tweaking the power settings in Windows control panel. But after a few months it started again. Using a light coloured mouse mat helps. Unplugging the mouse, and plugging it back in again whilst wiggling it often causes the mouse to wake up.

hello everyone, I have the same issue, I own a rat 7 and suddenly the cursor stopped moving, the bottoms and clicks are functionals but only the cursor that stopped moving, I was able to fix the problem and I hope it will work for you as well, you have to update your computer drivers, I used rivasoft driver reviver, it`s a very good application that updates your pc driver automatically, this issue is related to the mouse and pc drivers not a hardware issue, since the cursor moves a bit then stops for like days if the sensor is damaged or defected the cursor wouldn`t move at all, so when I updated my drivers and connected the mouse again it installed its own drivers and now it functions perfectly. please let me know if this solves the issue. you can use any driver updating tool such as driver finder but the problem was fixed with driver reviver and it would cost you about 25$ for 1 year subscription. its worth every penny trust me.

obviously the issue is back again, after one day of updating the drivers of my pc, so this assures that there is something up with the driver configuration, the problem is this issue is prominent in other computers as well, I will keep trying to fixed and keep up to date.

im not entirely sure, but i believe the surface is part of the problem, i have a rat 7 with windows 7 as well, and i was experiencing the same problem with the random stopping, but i noticed that for me at least that it was only doing it on hard plastic surfaces. ie. gaming mouse pads. but it would work perfectly fine with regular cloth mouse pads, even this $2 mouse pad i bought, so its quite possible that the rat 7 is just really particular with the surface its used on.

your probably right but the problem is I have been using the same pad for the past 5 months and it worked perfectly, just 2 weeks ago the cursor stopped completelly, no matter on what surface I use. it`s a drive problem but I don`t know how to fix it.

I had a similar problem with my rat 7. It just started sticking, sometimes it wouldn't move for almost 5 seconds. I got so angry than I would slam it on the table in an effort to jostle it into working.

I tried all the above solutions. re-install, used different usb outlets, different surfaces and so on. Just when I thought I'd found a solution that worked it would start sticking again.

Then I noticed a tiny tiny thread stuck to the bottom of my mouse that was sticking out over the mouse's eye. I removed it and it started working perfectly again! Every now and again the mouse starts sticking, but I just have to clean the eye and everything is good again. I think the eye on the RAT mice is just extremely susceptible to obstruction, dust and things like that.

just went ahead and bought my self a logitech g700 wireless gaming mouse on release along with my new build, and had no issues what so ever, the mouse has a dozen of macrso and it works like a charm, when you want to buy something just go to the best one that makes it end of story I`ve learn my listen, especially for someone like me who cannot send anything back for replacment or return it, since I live out side usa. I am perfectly happy with the g700 :)

Well I'm glad you found something that works for you! :)
Have you tried cleaning the eye and checking for small obstructions on your RAT5 like I mentioned worked for my RAT7? It'd be nice to know if that fixes the problem for other people, even if you've already moved on.

Like I mentioned mine works beautifully now that I clean the eye every now and again.

dude I cleaned the eye with all kind of stuff and I almost open the thing up, nothing worked, it only appears to work for a few hours after I leave it for a week or so unconnected, so yes I have tried all kind os solutions! you can`t imagine how disappointed I was when it stopped working, there is no where here you can get such mouse so I had no alternative, I contact cyborg support and they confirmed me that its a hardware issue and needed to be replaced, I couldnt replace it cuz I live in Libya.

Ah, that sucks! They should have sent you a free replacement!

they can`t do that, no company would do that, its against policy and regulations, in fact they are being genirious for offering me a replacment in while I live in Libya, since the item was purchased from USA so they could have simply declined, actually part of it is my fault cuz I have read few negative feedbacks concerning this mouse and I simply ignored them and went ahead and bought it, this should never be the case with someone in my position who doesnt have the means to sent it back for replacment

I have a similar issue with my G7 and it supposed to be down to it losing connection from the reciever signal, so it works and then stops for a second and then starts again. Its not down to drivers or mouse mat or cleaning the mouse as its always clean, and I haven't changed anything it just started losing connection. There were several suggestions about moving you reciever closer and higher but I have yet to test them.

This was my problem. I was soo frustrated and then read this. So I took my high powered can air and blaster the laser eye. Worked like a charm. Thanks

i have a rat 7 and this happened to me. I called saitek and they told me to clean the sensor underneath. I did that, and it did not work, so I returned it. It came back and stopped working after a month. Frustrated, I just plugged it out and used another mouse. Cut another month and I plugged the rat 7 back in and it started working again. It will work for about a week then stop. I plug it out for awhile, then when I replug it in, it will work again. This has gone on for the last year. I had the same exact problems as you where the wheel and buttons work, but the cursor would not move at all.

this is a very frustrating mouse, which is a shame cause I like the feel and the form factor when using it. I'm not quite sure what my problem is- whether its a software or hardware issue, a combination of both, or something wrong with my setup.

I feel your frustration, just went with logitech and never looked back, I really loved R.A.T 7 and the way it feels but it`s usless if it only work for a little while then stops.

I am having the same issue with my RAT 5, can't get the cursor to move.
Have uninstalled it, used it on 5 other puters, cleaned the lens, jumped up and down 5 times with my eyes closed, that got it working for half a second. Then when I sat down in excitement cause it started working - it stopped again.
So here I am using my $3 MS mouse.
Would love to hear any other ideas out there!!

From all that I have rad here and from all the frustrating moments I have had with my RAT7, I can only conclude it must be bad hardware.
All the symptoms point to bad soldering: stopping then working after being unplugged for a while (chips cool down), banging it down o make it work and all the other ways of intermittent work.
Seems like Saitek wanted to save a bit using less solder than they should. That often happens with BGA ICs. I do not know what is inside, but I feel I won't be able to fix it by myself. Way to much frustration from this mouse to justify wasting any more time on it. I think I'll go Logitech next time, they work.

Hi there, dont know if it helps you. But I had same problem with RAT 5 (freezing). After connecting second mouse, my rat 5 started work(even after disabling second mouse). Mb you will need some mojo with ON and OFF second mouse but it helped me.Hope it will help you as well. Sry for bad english

I have a Thermaltake Combat white mouse and i have this issue where when i remove the mouse from my OZONE gaming surface that it will freeze when i put the mouse down, then it will start working again. Frustrating when playing BF3 and trying to do large circles and i get a dead mouse for a few seconds :/

*fix*
i hope this help with your problems too;
i also have RAT 5 gaming mouse, and have been using it for 8months, and suddenly it just went broke, i "cursor not working".

my fix is change your power settings; never put your computer to sleep
power options/power plan/balanced(change plan setting)/put the computer to sleep "never"

this worked on me, i hope it would also help you guys out.

P.S. sorry for the wrong grammar and such, this is my first time posting in a forum, just wanna help. i've been searching the net for a fix, but have not found any, thankfully I've fixed mine on my own.
WINDOWS7 ultimate 64bit

Yea. Too bad my MSI motherboard USB controller fried and took everything that was plugged into USB along with it...

I ended up with a Steelseries Ikari Laser mouse until that was giving me a horrible double click problems and now I'm with a lackluster Razer Tron Mouse

I found that a silent windows update for HID has broken my mouse so every time Windows starts I have to unplug and replug. Uninstalling the HID update fixes the problem but Microsoft insists on silently re-installing it every so often. Maybe time to move to a non-retarded OS such as Ubuntu.

I have a cyborg Rat 3 - great mouse, just wish MIcosoft would stop messing around. Had a similar issue in the past with a "Microsoft" brand mouse.

hey this worked for me. i had this problem when it stopped and was lagging abit over the screen when i moved the mouse. after reading that the laser worked bad on the rat mouse and white mouse pads were the best to use, i took a normal paper and placed it ontop of my pad. it made the mouse work perfect and i havnt had any problems since 😀
