D2 Crashing

I have recently bought a new PC and it has for some reason started crashing
whenever i play D2 but only when i play on bnet. I don't know why but i
didn't have this problem with my other computer but it frustrates me. I had
both systems running with Nortons 2005 Internet Security (virus
checker/firewall) all in one package program aswell as both using Windows XP
Home. I can't forsee the upgrade in systems being a problem.

I went from an equivalent of a Pentium 3 900ghz system with 600 meg of Ram,
standard graphics card, sound card etc etc to my new system of Pentium 4
3gig system with 512meg of DDR ram vgood graphics card (bought for Games
system), same with video card, sound card. DVD burner etc etc. Windows XP
Home.

I do believe that there was a problem a while ago with Windows Xp crashing
the game but i thought that the problem was fixed and then current versions
of Xp were capable of playing these games. If not being part of 1.10 patch.

Anyone know of something that might be able to help out?

If it plays properly offline it should work online as well.
What, if any, error messages show up?
At what point does it crash?
Do you have any other internet games and do they work?
Tried disabling the firewall?
Got all the latest drivers?
XP service pack up to date?

Hi Jake,

Seems nothing wrong with your software. Except maybe installing newer
drivers if you haven't already done so.
I use Norton IS 2005 myself without any problems playing on-line or single
player.
Don't know about XP Home, I am using XP Pro (SP1), but I can't imagine the
Home edition would be the problem.

Are you sure everything works fine in single player, also when playing for a
long time?

Had some random crashes a while back, mostly after 15 minutes or sometimes
one or two hours playing games but also when extracting large zip or rar
files.
Couldn't figure out what it was.
After (very) long experimentation I found out that the problem was due to a
not 100% compatible memory module.
Did run some memory test programs and the error only showed up during one
specific test algorithm.

You might try memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) to rule out any memory
problems.
Let it run all the tests at least three times.
When you see lots of errors in several tests, it's probably a faulty memory
module.
If you see only errors during the ... don't know the exact name anymore,
think it was a 'block move' test or someting... it's probably the same
problem that I had.

regards,
Marcel

Thanks for that info Marcel, I'll do that. It's good to know that you can
understand exactly what i mean and to know that you are using similar
software. Thanks...
