as far as I know recuva is the best software out there for recovery it never filed me until now 🙁 I had this 1 year old wd my passport external hard disk (1TB) which recently started showing bad sector related problems.i thought of backing up the files but it was nearly full I didn't had 900GB+ space in my pc so I thought of buying a new internal HD but before I could do that, my passport just died, I was forced to format the drive so that windows can detect it.

after all that, now i'm trying to recover all the data using recuva (deep scan) but it just sits there with '0% complete' and 'calculating time left' message it's been like that for an hour now 🙁 last time when I tried it in my laptop it took 3 days to recover some 60 gb file since I stopped the task in the middle what should i do know ?

EDIT : OMG now it's saying estimated time left 9 days !!

The drive is dead, you should learn to keep a backup of your data before the drive fails.

I've learnt this the hard way too and lost 1TB of data. Now I keep a regular backup and have it automatically update every week.

oh! com'on I already mentionrd that I was able to salvage some of files, I just wan't to be sure about the reliability of recuva in my situation, if it's not any alternate for recuva
I tried a lot of software but , only recuva's results were satisfactory

oh! and it's 12 hours and it's scanning the hard disk 25% done it's says still 2 days to go

I'm getting chose the best answer mail again and again but, none of these solut ion working for me,but I'm half way through and encountered several problems so I'm making a new topic
thanks for your time everybody :)

Hello every one
I am having the same terrible issue. The WD passport didn’t recognize my password any more and I count open it. Base in lots of opinions I decide to format it and was hoping that I will recover at list some of the data.
Very disappointed I found out that no program can do the job…recuva and some other ones I tried recover some but the files are in a strange format that cannot be opened or read it seems that there is some kind of encryption….hope some e one can help me out
Thank you

You may have to try some other data recovery tool, here's some good ones

Take note that you'd better stop using the WD passport to avoid any new files to be written to hard drive before you get back your lost files.

Your drive may have issues related to drives firmware. The program responsible for translating physical sectors to logical ones basically can stop working when the growing list of defects gets full. Although drive appears to be working fine or perhaps slugish but still reports to BIOS actual access to data area is not possible. On this level Windows is not helping nor any logical tools. In this case you better leave your drive and seek for professional help? There is a web service to estimate your western digital data recovery in minutes. In case you REALLY need your data this might help. Good luck!

Recuva is one of the best software to recover data, It is taking time because your hard disk sectors are damaged. There is no meaning of using other data recovery tools because they will also take time.
