Hello all!

I currently have a HP XW6400 Workstation which has 2 x 1 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 ECC ram in dual channel. (slot 1 + slot 3)

My question is: can i add another 2GB memory module without replacing the existing ones?

I don't necessarily want dual channel, i want to know if the motherboard will "see" 4GB :)

Thanks in advance.

If there is a computer store nearby that sells your memory, the best way is to bring your physical computer (minus the mechanical drives, to avoid it from being shaken) to the shop and have them test which memory brand/model does work with your mobo.
Yes. However, just be very careful about the memory you get. You need to get a stick of RAM with the exact same settings/timings. If you don't, you'll usually run into problems. It's never a sure thing unless you buy the RAM all together.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the answer, so there should be no problems in adding a separate memory module as long as it has the same timings / settings even if it "breaks" the dual channel config.

Yep! And while 32 bit and 64 bit processors/operating systems can utilize 4GB of RAM, if you ever get more, you'll need a 64-bit operating system/processor to take advantage of it.

Ok guys, after further reading the manual i have found out that there is no setting for separate size ram sticks. From what i see in this page (http://s12.postimg.org/5269sgewd/ram.jpg) it looks like i really have to match the size of the dimms... or can i use different ram capacity?

Like i said i currently have 2 x 1 GB and i want to add 1 or 2 GB more :)
