ddr3 1600 vs ddr3 1333

im planning to get a core i7 920 and x58 msi mobo in 1 month, but im not sure what ram to get, i know the ddr3 1600 is more expensive, but is it really that much better than the 1333, and do the numbers after it matter, like the 10666 or the 10600, im confused as to what those justify.

I want to get 6 gigs of memory but i want to get the best stuff, i also dont want to pay a rediculous amount for it, like 300, id rather spend around 200-240 like the 1333 is in.

Would it be better to get 3 gigs of ddr3 1600 ram for now and upgrade later, get 6 gigs of ddr3 1333, or to get 6 gigs of ddr3 1600 that i could get cheap somehow.
 
Just get 6 gigs of ddr3 1333 and overclock to 1600 or even higher if you know what your doing.Should be able to keep tight timings of 1333 and still bump to 1600 might have to tweak timings alittle bit depending on how much juice you want to give it.
 
Core i7 doesn't use more than 1333mhz in a 3 memory chip config or 1066mhz in a 6 memory chip config without overclocking in any case.

What is CAS Latency? Make any difference?
 
Well, mine's running 12 gigs of DDR3-1600 just fine right now, but mine is the i7-965, so it may have allowed higher memory multipliers than would have otherwise been available.

Oh, and that RAM looks fine. Great for the price. As for CAS latency, it basically referrs to how quickly the RAM can respond in certain ways - lower is better. For example, that RAM you linked to has a CAS latency of 9 cycles at 1333 MHz (6.75ns). However, the higher end memory, such as the Corsair Dominator 6GB kit has a CAS latency of 8 cycles at 1600 MHz (5ns). As you can see, the Dominator responds faster - in 5 nanoseconds instead of 6.75. However, the real world gain is somewhat debatable. I wouldn't worry too much unless you're quite picky.

It is possible, I can't say how stable it will be though. In the past at least though (DDR1 days) You could do just that, but it would select the slowest of the speeds used. Now when most systems can't identify the speed of anything over 1333, you have to do the adjusting to the slower speed or overclock the one to the faster. YMMV on how well it works though.
 

There's not much performance difference between each step up in RAM. Sometimes paying a lot more gets you only a little improvement. Here's a couple reviews that can help you decide what will give you the most value:

I don´t know 2 much about this...But getting 1600Mhz won´t make any difference, unless you have an SSD powerfull enough to bottleneck the RAM speed..The other choice for more speed should be the latency. If you wonna OC the CPU let say some crazy 5.0Ghz on a I7 2500k you need low latency to aboid problem with the CPU. Some OC RAM come hand when you wonna OC some I7 cpu, since you can easy twik the BUS speed to make it compatible using direct same ratio over CPU-RAM > 1:1...
The speed in graphic is determinate by the VRAM (GPU memory speed) and they usually come with DDR5, memory RAM will only change the acces times when loading data to the GPU, unless you use the RAM shared with an internal graphic in that case the RAM work as VRAM and should make a realtime difference inside games when is OC (but no one can play with a internal anyways).
