DDR333 CAS 2 or DDR400 CAS 3?

I'v got a few options for buying ram... as everyone does i guess
anyway my options are...

Kingmax DDR 333 CAS = 2
Kingmax DDR 400 CAS = 3

or Kingston DDR 333 = Cas 2.5 (a bit more expenisve than either and not available at my supplier for a few days)

It's for what will most likely be a Barton Athlon 2800+

Will the 400 ram make that much difference? or is it better to get CAS 2 333 ram?

you could probably run the pc2700 cas 2 memory at pc3200 cas 2.5. So i would go for that. What system is this going into?

"What system is this going into?"

Umm not telling.... :)

cos you advised me against this in my other post 😉

Well actually its an Athlon 2800+ Barton. and ill give it 1.5GB of ram

The MP upgrade i was looking at would have cost twice as much but only given me a 30% increase in speed in the apps i need the speed for.

So i get this as a minorish upgrade and then think about something more serious further down the line when all the new processors are out and at more reasonable prices.

There is a possibility i may get a p4 2.8 or something like that, which would give me more speed in photoshop and AE if i were to get winXP but then id possibly have to look at dual channel 400 ram and stuff which starts to bring the cost up since id probably have to go with 2gb

Unless you want to spend the cash now for a future upgrade. You can buy the DDR400 and have it clock back down to DDR333. Then when you buy a system that can use the full bandwidth and frequency speed of the DDR400 you will not have to buy new memory.

Do what you think makes sense.

Woops i didnt see that you ditched the mp idea.

In that case...pc2700 or pc3200, all depends if you wish to overclock, IMO it is a waste to spend money on ddr ram now when DDRII is right around the corner so i would just go with pc2700.

As time passes, it looks like i will never own a DDR based system, i will jump from sdram to DDRII, and what a jump it will be!

DDR still has a lot of room for clock speed improvements. I look at the DDRII heat issues on the graphics side of things which keeps them running back to the DDR. I don't know how long it will be until we see DDRII with consistant temps. So I wouldn't get your hopes up.

but what speeds are Graphics cards running their DDR2 at? I would immagine pretty fast since many standard ddr chips on gpus are running 250+ mhz.

I'm going to buy new computer with nForce2 MB, Athlon 2500 (Barton) and 2*256MB RAM.
And I'd like to choose between:
- OCZ DDR 3200 Premier Series
(standard timings:CL 2,5-3-3-7 2T)
- OCZ DDR 2700 rev 3.2 (standard timings: CL 2-2-2-5 1T)
Do anybody has the OCZ memory nad can tell me if DDR 3200 as above can work with CL 2-2-2-5 1T and 333Mhz bus (sync)?
