I have i7-13700k and wants to upgrade memory from 2666 frequency to 4000 memory because my mobo ASROCK Z690 STEEL LEGEND ddr4 supports up to 4000 frequency overclock. Now my questions is Can i7-13700k will run at 4000 frequency? Others say i7-13700k support max memory frequency up to 3200 ONLY , i want to try even up to 3600 or 4000 frequency but hesitate to do becuase it will cause a waste of money if it not really supported that kind of frrequency.

thanks for the advice.

In terms of RAM, ASRock Z690 Steel Legend supports up to four DDR4 UDIMMs with a maximum capacity of 128GB and a maximum frequency of 4266MHz. If you are not engaged in overclocking, then you can safely put 3600-4000 MHz sticks on the 13700k processor...
You are good.

The native ram speed(3200) support is the speed at which the motherboard will boot into the bios.
There, you can overclock(usually via xmp) to the advertised 4000 speed of the ram.
4000 speed ram will also run at lower speeds to get you started.

Disadvantages of ASRock Z690 Steel Legend: XMP support does not work correctly, so you may have to set the RAM frequency manually. Don't forget to update your BIOS to the latest version.
