This problem occured in the last week on my kids gaming pc... it was booting fine, and then my kid told me the next day nothing.. hung up on vga fault led.. could this maybe be a bogus bios update push through windows 11 auto update?

ryzen 2600
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
(32gb) 4x8gb crucial ballistix 3000mHz
8gb xfx xxx oc black edition rx580
512gb wd sn750
1tb wd black 7200rpm
1000w msi mpg a1000g

~ i pulled the gpu, tried another from a different system.. no boot.. hangs on vga.
~ tested both gpu's in secondary pcie x16 lane.. hangs on vga
~ thought maybe psu (prior was 650w), so went out and replaced that (1000w psu).. no boot.. hangs on vga
~ tested original xfx gpu in the other system i know works and pulled test gfx card from.. boots and shows fine..
~ pulled ram chips and tested one at a time.. no boot.. hangs on vga
~ pulled cmos battery and depleted the charge retaining bios saved settings (hard reset).. no boot.. hangs on vga.
~ tried a "ez flash" via usb on the bios.. no change.. hangs on vga..

my next and last step i can think of is testing a different cpu? The other system i used to pull the test gpu from has a 3600x.. im certain the bios on this b450m should be able to take that cpu with no issues.

will respond again (maybe edit this post once i get the chance to test the cpu swap)

any other ideas? before i deem the mobo as dead.. if the cpu swap doesnt work..

they system is coming up to 9 years old.. so i mean.. its had a good run regardless..

MSI b450m
MSI have a number of matx B450 chipsetted motherboards, which one do you have? If the BIOS is what you're assuming is corrupt and your motherboard has a Flash BIOS button on the rear of the board, you should go through and reflash the BIOS with the latest BIOS version.

thought maybe psu (prior was 650w)
What was the make and model of this PSU and it's age?

To rule out your motherboard, you can transplant everything except the PSU onto a known working motherboard with the right BIOS version and if you get POST without hindrance, then a replacement motherboard is the route to take.

mistyped the mobo info.. its a b450 tomahawk max

i have flashed the bios but unsure if it took or not, goes through the process of testing on boot (fault leds indicate testing of mobo, cpu, vga etc. it does spend a bit of time on cpu which is why i was thinking of trying the cpu swap from the known working pc i have. (was my media center pc)..

former psu is a 650w evga supernova

this is what i was thinking.. the vga card works on the other system.. so i know it isnt the card.. psu was the next step, and then i know a faulty cpu can sometimes trigger various other faults as well..
