This was my spare, running Windows 11, I went to wake it up and it wasn't responsive, no lights, nothing. I checked the PSU using the "short pins 14 & 15" method with negative results. So I ordered a new Corsair RM850x. But I'm wondering about the cause. The machine was powered on, in sleep mode, when it ceased. I don't believe there was a short circuit, maybe a power spike? It was plugged into a "power strip", just a few years old but I learned recently that means it's probably useless...also my main PC was plugged into the same strip with no issues.

So maybe the PSU just died? The build is an MSI B760 Gaming Plus, with a Radeon 6750xt and Intel i5-13500 CPU. Is there a way to check my CPU, RAM or MB to find out if they still work? Is there something similar to the PSU paper clip test? I have a multimeter but I suppose without a PSU connected there is nothing to measure. Continuity?

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Intel i5-13500 CPU
Considering you have an intel processor with an iGPU, you could try and power the system sans the discrete GPU.

Is there something similar to the PSU paper clip test?
Just an FYI, the paper clip test, is flawed. It merely tells you that the PSU works but can't tell you what the PSU can effectively output to the entire system.

So I ordered a new Corsair RM850x. But I'm wondering about the cause.
If the PSU is indeed the culprit, then it belongs in the trash bin, nothing worth servicing here. If the PSU is of lackluster build quality, that's the reason for it's demise.
