I just rented Dead to Rights, and let me warn you away from it. Literally
after 15 minutes, I had to stop because of the stupid control. The left and
right movement of the right thumb stick is inverted/reversed, so when you
move the stick to the right, the camera looks to the left. When you
consider games like Splinter Cell, MechAssault, Metal Arms, or Max Payne,
when you move the right thumb stick to the right, the camera look to the
right, which makes sense. I have no idea why Dead to Rights decided to
invert/reverse the camera movement, but it ruined the game. I guess they
wanted to be special or something,... To make it worse, they don't give you
an option to change/customazie the controls, which is what drove the nails
into the coffin. Another frustration is that the camera movement and the
character movement aren't independent. In the other cames previously
mentioned, moving the character does not move the camera, which is the way
it should be, however, in Dead to Rights, moving the character moves the
camera, which is another source of poor design.
If anyone from the Dead to Rigths developers is reading this newsgroup, in
the future, give us the option to change/customize the controls!
