keep in mind there is also a live action movie made as well as a very long in depth manga from which the anime was born.

Actually I like the novels as well. There are many excellent psychological description.

Death Note is amazing! One of my favorite anime series and one of the few I watched twice. I haven't watched the live action movie nor read the novels, I think I'll look into that soon!
