Default Gateway changed to 10.0.0.1, brings me to a router that ISN'T mine?

I have a very strange issue on my hands. So, my default gateway has changed from 192.168.1.1 to 10.0.0.1. When I try access the router settings via typing 10.0.0.1 in the URL it brings me to a Netgear login, which is weird because my router is Linksys and it's always been in the 192.168 range. So I went ahead and typed in admin and password and it brought me to Netgear router settings. Here's the weird thing, this isn't even mine. The SSID is completely different, as well as the WPA2 code. This belongs to my neighbor. Why am I able to access this when not connected to their network? And how can I change my gateway back to the 192.168 range?

When I try to use the Linksys Connect software it tells me I'm not connected to a Linksys router, which makes no sense because my computer is connected to the router via ethernet and my computer doesn't have wireless capabilities.

I'm so lost. If you guys need any screenshots of anything let me know.

Solution
Have you tried to static set the IP of your computer?

Set to IP of 192.168.1.21 (Linksys uses .100-.149 for router assigned addresses). Subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway of 192.168.1.1.
This would be really really weird to not work when you have PC connected straight to router, connected straight to modem.
If that does not work then do a factory reset on router.

If this does work then I would still reset router, change wifi password and disable WPS.

I have my own internet service.

I've also just discovered something else. When I look in my neighbors router settings, I see my IP address. I also see my PC under their routers Connected Devices. But when I unplug my router I lose internet access.

Then your neighbor has piggybacked off of your internet connection.

Is it your IP address as the gateway address (or WAN address)?

Is there just your computer plugged into the router via Ethernet, or other ports as well?
Your internet service, is it cable, dsl, or fiber? Is the modem in an area you can see?

It's my IP address. Both internet and LAN IP.

My computer is just plugged into my router, which is plugged into my modem. My internet service is cable, and the modem is right next to me.

Also, how could they be piggybacking off of my internet connection? They don't know my network's password.

Edit: Anything I do to their router affects me. If I release their IP, I lose internet access. Once I renew it I gain access again. Weird.

Does your router have WPS, a.k.a. hack it now button. Grandma can download an app on her android phone to hack into your router when you have WPS button enabled.

If you use WEP encryption this is also easily hackable.
You should use WPA2 for encryption.

Is the modem a modem/router combo (if it has more then one Ethernet port it is a combo device)? If so they might be piggybacked off of the modem's wifi signal and not your wifi router. Are you sure you are not just accessing the webpage on your modem?

My router has WPA2 and my modem only has one port, which is for the router. So it's not a combo.

From the looks of it my PC refuses to connect to MY router. It keeps on connecting to theirs even though my PC is connected to my router. Which doesn't seem to make any sense.

Yeah, sorry, my bad.

Set everything manually and lo and behold it connected me to my private network, but it denied me internet access. Couldn't connect at all.

I think what I'll have to do is set everything manually again so I can gain access to my router, reset it and then reconfigure everything and hope that works.

Oh and the model is E1200 N300. (I've been needing to upgrade lol)

The only way this should be possible is if the neighbor hacked into your router, configured his router to act as the dhcp server, thus causing your PC to be redirected to his 10.0.0.1 address when not setup to static IP.

Now the very weird thing though is why anyone with enough skill to do this would leave their router with the default login admin😛assword

I highly doubt that's the case. My neighbors just recently moved in and they had their internet setup by Comcast. I have a feeling the Comcast tech messed something up. They aren't the most efficient.

No this completely can not be done by accident. The Comcast tech would have no ability to do this without being logged directly into your router. These level of settings can not be accessed via the modem or any networking device "above" the modem. You can google "NAT router" to understand more.

If you did not have your own modem setting in the living room then I would think maybe you logged in to an "upstream" router. Now that would still not explain why your PC can not get an address from your router, as it would still want to apply DHCP even if Comcast left that upstream router open AND with default user😛assword.

As I stated earlier, set your IP address as static. IP: 192.168.1.21, SUBNET: 255.255.255.0, GATEWAY: 192.168.1.1.
http://www.colorado.edu/oit/tutorial/static-ip-configuration-windows-7.

If the IP of .21 does not work then try anything between .3 and .99.

I meant factory reset. I was able to factory reset it, but I can't set it up because the Linksys Software says I'm not connected to a router and accessing 192.168.1.1 doesn't work. And since I can't set anything up my router created an open network that anybody can connect to.

I'm 100% positive my PC doesn't have wifi and I only have 1 ethernet port

And here's the other things you wanted.

Go to device manager, uninstall Ethernet adapter, scan for new hardware, and it should auto-reinstall.

Go to control panel, internet options, connections tab, lan settings, make sure proxy server is NOT selected.

Also go back to device manager and under Ethernet adapter, disable IPV6.

If you have any questions on how to do these tasks, google it first for a tutorial as once you do the first step you wont have internet to check if you do it wrong.

Just did all of that. Nothing really changed other than the 192.168.1.1 default gateway being removed. I'm left with 10.0.0.1 again.
