I'm kinda new to this but I just bought parts to make a custom PC and tried to use an old power supply but it wouldn't turn on. The next day my brother tested the power supply and figured out that wasn't the problem because it powered up another motherboard. So we think the motherboard is defective but not too sure. If you guys can let me know other ways to check please do. So I have ordered another power supply and motherboard because I've heard stories of psus dying and taking out the whole computer. So my question is if I get a defective Psu is there any way for me to protect my other parts if it explodes? Like would a power surge outlet help?
