First of all, what is the rig for? If its just for gaming there are some easy ways to cut costs without impacting performance.

A Platinum PSU most likely isnt worth it. Its only a tiny bit more efficient than a bronze unit and you would likely need to get a 1000W+ unit to get a platinum efficiency, which is an utter waste.

Not worth getting 1866Mhz RAM outright, performance gain is minimal compared to the price increase compared to 1600Mhz RAM. Although it would only be a matter of a ~$20 at most, its money that you dont need to spend.
Also that Dominator RAM, ridiculously expensive. They are no better than RAM half their price.

Yeah, we need to know the system usage before we can suggest anything.

Although let me just throw it out there that as of the current pricing, I see no point on getting a GTX 680 no matter what the system's usage for is since the performance increase from the 670 is only 5% which can be easily obtained with a slight OC.

That's ~$100~ down the drain right there.

Hi there guys. Sorry I'm getting back to you so late. I had written the original post at like 11 PM and my job is a 4 AM to 2 PM kinda gig.

So reading the posts above it seems I forgot to mention what the primary purpose of this build was. That being a Gaming Rig. However I also intend to use it for other things such as video editing, music editing, and photo shopping.

@manofchalk
What would be your recommendation for a PSU? And also, I know that Corsair Dominator Platinum is over priced for the branding, but it looks really cool. I'm looking for RAM that's a bit flashy, but again I don't mind not flashy. Whatever you recommend.

@excella1221
Yeah I was thinking that as well too, but I didn't realize how easy it is to over clock a 670 to 680 specs so I'll probably be going with your suggestion but I'm probably going to get a 4 GB video card so that way if I ever did want to add a second monitor it wouldn't be so straining on the card. Or is even that over kill for let's say 2 1920 X 1080P resolution monitors?

RAM, Pretty cool looking IMO,: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231609 matches your mobo well.
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202001&nm_mc=AFC-C8junctionCA&cm_mmc=AFC-C8JunctionCA-_-Video+Cards-_-Sapphire+Tech-_-14202001&AID=10592396&PID=3938566
SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227792&Tpk=Ocz%20Vertex%204%20256gb or you can go cheaper and get 128gb, unless you absolutely need 256gb.
Seems you want to do alot, so try a 2tb HDD with the money that you are saving? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136792&nm_mc=AFC-C8junctionCA&cm_mmc=AFC-C8JunctionCA-_-Hard+Drives-_-Western+Digital-_-22136792&AID=10592396&PID=3938566
Current PSU I am using, should work for what you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703028&nm_mc=AFC-C8junctionCA&cm_mmc=AFC-C8JunctionCA-_-Power+Supplies-_-PC+Power+and+Cooling-_-17703028&AID=10592396&PID=3938566

This is whats best in my opinion, other people might have better suggestions. GL

Actually, you should've waited at least 24 hours for us. :lol:

You can cut off $100 as well by going for an i5-3570K instead of the i7. There is basically no performance loss whatsoever in gaming. The only significant edge the latter has is hyperthreading.
