Deleting downloads

I downloaded and installed the famous 'teleport shrub' to deal with
stuck maids and the like. Now I find that since I've installed it
(only actually placed it on one lot), the MAILBOX on every lot gives me
a load of freaky options like 'know all sims', 'stop all animations',
'force burglary', 'force bills' etc.

I happen to be one paranoid cookie and worry that in the process of
getting the mail, I'm going to accidentally click on one of these
millions of other options and screw up the game (having to reinstall
twice for faults and once for University really tried my patience so I
really don't want to have to do it again).

Is it ok to just delete the relevant file from the downloads folder
after removing the shrub from the one lot I've installed it on? Or
should I delete it ingame? Or... something else I haven't thought of?

It's not the teleport shrub that's doing that. I have it in my game and
have nothing like that going on with the mailbox. Perhaps you downloaded a
house full of hacks or something. but isn't Carrigton's teleporter shrub.

It sounds like the Mailbox hack- you can look for it and delete it with the
Clean Pack Installer. It almost certainly came with a lot. You're right
Jeanie, it's not the shrub.

It can't be a lot because the last time I downloaded a lot and
installed it, the only option I still had from the mailbox was get
mail, it's ONLY since installing the shrub that I've had these options
pop up.

Ok, let's assume it is (even though the only lots I've downloaded have
come directly from thesims2.com website with only maxis objects). What
is Clean Installer? Is that from SimsPE or whatever it's called?

It is the infamous "mailbox hack". And it DID come with a download. It has
nothing at all to do with the teleporter bush and/or painting. Delete it
via Clean Installer.

No, it's a separate program. http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/
In the program open your downloads folder. Hacks are marked red.

That is *exactly* where I accidentally got it in a download... from the
official Maxis site.

All I can tell you is I have her shrub and I do not get weird mailbox
options. The only time you hear of weird mailbox options is with the mailbox
hack - so maybe somebody else has put something into your machine? No matter
where it came from using Clean Install will enable you to find and delete
any unwanted hacks.

The Maxis Exchange is the WORST place to get unwanted hacks and other stuff
in your game.

I had the same problem, but I ended up deleting it manually from the
downloads folder... the file name is....

47f6694823608ee078ac6dfs218e1926

and it came with a supposedly 'hack free' lot from the exchange...

It obviously won't work for hacks, but for the decorator items that turned
bright blue, I found that you can delete them using the redecorate mode.
There is an option to trash custom items there. MADE IT MUCH EASIER.

It is the little icon in the buy mode that looks like fabic samples. Click
on that and on the object and it shows you all the choices available for it
and lets you change them for 15 simoleons. A very nice addition to the
program.

HAHA - gotchya!

No more scary letterbox things, regardless of where in heck it came
from.

Next query - Clean Install refers to some 'empty packages' in my
Downloads folder. What's happened here and is it safe to just delete
them?

It can scan the folder like SimPe can. It's really good for finding
conflicting GUID's and identifying all the different hacks you have as well
as doing selective installs of Sims2Pack files.

Yeah I checked that out tonight. But I found I had to do it folder by
folder or it gave me an error. I gotta divide my decoration folder more,
lol.
