I was recently given a Dell Dimension 2400 for free. My neighbors were moving and didn't want the computer, so I took it. After taking it home I cleaned it and gutted it. Now I want to throw a few bucks into this thing, start by throwing in a cheap socket 775 or AM2+/Am3 board, but am currently undecided as to which would be best for a budget of under $100. Any suggestions?

Hi there,
Both of these are under $100 and both have excellent performance:

But, for a more long term investment it may be worth getting a LGA 1150 Board as you can get a cheap Pentium, i3, or celeron and then upgrade later in life.

Hope this helps!

Forgot to mention that this project is just a hobby. In my free time I like to take apart computers and rebuild them with modern components. I plan on selling the tower for $50-75 after it's done. And, I don't want to sink a lot of money into it, since it's old.

I would like to find a cheap mobo/cpu combo on Ebay and use the DDR2 RAM and SATA hard dive from my old Emachines tower, and throw in a good, used PSU, since the old Dell ones just don't cut it anymore.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Not sure if an HP board will fit
