Hello everyone.
I have a dell dimension 4600, with a 3.0/512/800/ht northwood cpu, 3GB of 400 MHz ddr memory, and a ATI HD 2600XT. however, the memory in the system only runs at 333 MHz. anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

I am running a12 bios, the latest version.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Without looking up the actual board spec I am guessing but based on crucial I would say the board is 333 Mhz stock speed. Meaning it will only run at 333 Mhz. Crucial recommends PC2700 and they would only do that if it came stock with PC2700. Its an older board. To be honest your not going to notice the difference between 333 Mhz and 400 Mhz on that system.
