Dell LCD 1905fp

I placed an order for a 8400 with the Dell 1905fp LCD monitor, I saw this as
a free upgrade (yeah free sure) when I was configuring the sys. I selected
this monitor. This morning I looked at the spec's for this Dell Ultrasharp
monitor and it list the dot pitch at .294 that does not seem like Ultrasharp
to me. Do the LCD flat panels rate their dot pitch differently. I have time
to cancel this entire order please comment.

I just received two, one is on my desktop (connected DVI) and one is
connected (Analog) to about 7 different servers and PCs in my test lab. I
love them and I'm very happy with the purchase.

It is a great LCD. I love my new 1095FP. Yes, LCDs are rated differently.

UltraSharp is merely a marketing term they apply to what they consider
to be the best Dell branded panels. You were wise to look at the specs.
Although, well, you know ;-)

IIRC, TFT active matrix LCD flat panels have a fixed number of pixels
and the native resolution reveals that arrangement. For example, the
1905fp has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, so the display consists
of 1280 x 1024 pixels. Each pixel is made up of red, green, and blue
subpixel elements arranged horizontally,. I believe that when you see a
"dot pitch" or "pixel pitch" measurement for an LCD monitor, it normally
equates to the distance between the centerlines of same colored subpixel
elements in horizontally adjacent pixels. Or IOW, the distance between
the centerlines of the Rs in "RGB RGB RGB". I don't know whether
some LCD manufacturers and/or resellers use another dimension. But if
you also know the actual display area dimensions, you can crunch some
numbers and see how close they are. For example:

1280 x .294 mm = 376.32 mm = 14.8157"
1280 x .255 mm = 326.40 mm = 12.8504"

If you come across a 19" LCD flat panel with a 14.8" wide display
area advertised as having .255 mm, I'd dig deeper ;-)

A lower dot or pixel pitch number is better in the sense that it can
produce sharper images. But there is more to LCD display quality
and customer satisfaction than just that. I'd say let it ship and take it
for a spin and see if you like it. If you don't, maybe a friend or
family member would take it off your hands.

I've had a 1905fp for about 2 months now & love it (it replaced my P991
Trinitron monitor, which I still think was a darned good monitor).

Thanks to all who replied, I have learned quite a bit about LCD monitors. I
think that My Nokia 446Xpro is a great monitor also, and if it wasn't as big
as a house sitting on my desk I would continue to use it. I hope to enjoy
the 1905FP.
