[citation][nom]VidGameKing[/nom]I bet you the battery was microwaved! How else do you get a battery to explode like that? They fixed the bad battery issues of the past! Why else would it be placed on the ground in the middle of an empty room? The wood floor adds dramatic effect too, not to mention smoke. And they got a free upgrade too boot! Look at the keys on that laptop, all shiney and worn, I'll bet it was time for an upgrade and they figured the easiest way was to get dell to fit the bill for the whole thing![/citation]

Is that sarcasm or do you really think someone would ruin their expensive floor just to score an upgrade to a cheap-ass atom based netbook? Did you wake up on the stupid side of the bed this morning?

Funny that she set it down in the middle of the floor, how many people unplug something and put down on the floo,r open and in the middle. Seem kind of weird.

America really needs to start boycotting these garbage made in China products and get back to making their own stuff again.

Putting it on the middle of the wood floor is ridiculous. The entire time she took to unplug it, then bring it down stairs and place it on the floor, she never had any idea that the laptop was running hot. Then she took the time to take pictures (finding the camera, turning it on...). I don't know a person out there who wouldn't go in a frenzy if they saw smoke in their house. This just doesn't make sense. In the last photo you can see bits of moisture off to the left, I wouldn't be surprised if the floor was recently finished with a flammable substance. I'm convinced this was staged. And if it was I hope she faces some sort of consequence.

Notice how the 2nd picture you can barely make out BECAUSE THE SUNLIGHT ON THAT SECTION OF THE FLOOR.... I bet there's a comment about that in the user manual....

There's a few things I find kinda funny about this.

1. The laptop was placed DIRECTLY in the middle of a large open room, on the floor, open, and turned on, with no furniture around that she could possibly be planning to sit on the USE the laptop, and it's not like laying ont he floor would be very convenient either. Nobody thought that was a little weird? I don't know about you but I don't go around putting my expensive electronics all over the place like a damn fool.

2. While her room was filling with smoke, she took the time to go get her camera, and take a picture, rather than react to the problem first. Gotta love those priorities.

It all smells a little fishy to me.
But I'm sure Dell will just be so busy trying to avoid a lawsuit that they'll just pacify this idiot like big business is supposed to do.

Thats not sunlight its a little invention known as a lamp. O.k that sounded a bit bitchy but do you notice how the entire room seems dark and only in that one spot can you make out a light source of any kind? Its too dim to be the sun so it must be a lamp of some kind.

[citation][nom]sliem[/nom]By the size of that room, it might be around 1000-2000 depending on geographic location and who's doing it. You can't just fix that particular damaged floor. You have to redo the entire room.[/citation]

From the pictures, that is a very superficial mark on the floor. If she has to pay more than $500 to have it fixed the contractor is ripping her off.

You can easily replace hardwood flooring in the middle of the room. Sand out around the affected area, and reseal the floor.

In 3 months, you won't even be able to tell the floor was repaired.

There is almost certainly more to this story. We've had a Mini 9 in our shop for a long time and it hasn't exploded. I wouldn't be surprised if it were dropped or otherwise treated improperly previously to the "explosion".

Having worked at Dell in various departments, I can honestly say that is a smart person trying to get a free upgrade, albeit their staging was terrible. I should know I do it all the time, but I don't take ridiculous pictures of a staging area for an exploding notebook battery. No sense in pointing out the obvious in that picture. Move along now nothing to see here.

Do you want to work for a few dollars a day? With minimum wage laws and OSHA & EPA rules in the US, US labor and manufacturing cannot compete with China's low wages and even lower concern for the environment. Prices would increase big time for USA built consumer electronics, think on the order of 4X-5X current prices if not more.

[citation][nom]CChick[/nom]90%+ of the shit in your house came from foreign countries.if u love ur USA shit so much, go all american, but before then, just stfu already bitch.[/citation]

nice backward point there. the usa makes better products than most other countries, however it is too expensive for labor here since our quality control is so superior to almost every other country on the planet, hence why we outsource most of it to foreign lands. but we also have a standard and don't much appreciate crappy products which is why it is a miracle that an atom can even sell so well in this country.
