Dell monitor is not working right (starts for two seconds then black)

Hey guy's I really do not like dell or there products and do not own one or know anyone who have had good luck with there service techs.

Which is why my niece brought her problem to uncle, her monitor when starting up does the startup just fine and dandy. But after two seconds it literally goes completely black, no faded gray images, just black!

The monitor came with a Dimension E510. I assume it is a typical dell package, it is a 17in. LCD monitor model # 1707FPc

OK so I have so far deduced that it is indeed the monitor and not the energy saving mode from the PC I have tryed out on a different system and it does the no good I have hooked my own monitor to my niece's system and my monitor works good with her system so... when starting up I have gone into the menu after a hundred restarting of the monitor I seen a factory reset to factory settings not sure whats going on after it is highlighted because of the blacking out I can toggle to it but then black screen kicks in (@%#%@$) motherfu....r is really pissing me off.

Ok there are 5 function button on this monitor left to right, leftside the firt button a box with an arrow pointing into the center of the box, the second button is the menu button, third button is a menus "-" sign, fourth button is a plus "+" button and the last button on the rightside is the on-off button.

After I highlighting the reset factory setting option which button actually enables this function? Because it goes black I do not know if another option or whatever needs to be done it is not on the screen so I'm hoping someone who has had the same problem knows or can help me or someone has the same monitor can they please tell me what comes up and what button actually enables the command to reset.

FYI I have done the disconnect the monitor and turned it on to do a dignostic check AGAIN DID I TELL YOU THE MOTHERF....R goes black after 2 flipping sec. again same problem see it can't react fast enough to see what is actually going on and if I need to do anything else HELP PLEASE!

Hey there Poppasmurf, zgregorya here, having same problem with my dell 2007wfpb monitor, saw your post and it is exactly what I am experiencing and have tried to fix, very frustrating especially when you get to the reset function but, it shuts down before you can enable it, anyway, wondering if you ever fixed it or did you give up, cause that is where I am at, cant afford another one these days. thanx, ciao

Hello poppy here sorry say the people I've talked with have talked about removing back side and look for bad solder points and re-solder so...needless to say I'm not that handy and it still sits

TG thank you for your response and sorry for delay been out of town away from the monitor anyways back and I have done what you have asked and I get a floating text feature check read as follows

Dell
1: Digital input
Self test feature check
RED
GREEN
BLUE
WHITE

Each color sits in a box with the correct color but... here again the screen goes black 2 seconds and pitch black that is what I get for the message

This exact same thing has happened to the exact same monitor model for me.

The message turns up for 2 seconds after i unplug everything (apart from power - Captain obvious) and then the screen goes off.

Everything works fine on any other monitor however.

I have the same problem with a Gateway HD2200 23" monitor. First, I knocked it off the shelf it was on, and it landed on it's head from about a foot and a half up. Thereafter, it lights up for 2 seconds whenever it powers on, and then goes black. Factory reset doesn't seem to have helped.

Today I took it all apart, and tested the main components. The digital subsystem for displaying stuff seems to be OK -- the actual LCD layer shows everything that it should, and I can see and read it if I put a lamp behind it.

So that problem is that the backlight shuts off and doesn't come back on. If I power off and back on quickly, it keeps up. I've looked at the circuits and can't find a fuse or switch that would do this without shutting everything off.

The monitor's about 3 years old and I bought it as a refub. All of the capacitors and other components look good. The backlight layer appears to be undamaged.

I call this condition "almost working".

Ok, if a monitor goes blank after a few seconds, with not even the back light in it, odds are we have a problem with the lamp or other stuff.

From Dell, I can tell they usually come w/a 3yr warranty, or whatever the warranty time the PC came with.
Gateway, I'd believe the have similar policies, but let's doublecheck.

Get the serial# for both LCD & PC handy, arm urself w/patience & call their support.
& ask to get a replacement one.

Have another look at the capacitors on the invertor board. See if any are swollen at the top, not necessarly leaking and replace them if they are. Capacitors for yours should be "330uF 35V Electrolytic Capacitors +105℃ Radial" which are cheap, but check the part number to make sure. About $1 each.
I have fixed heaps of monitors with exactly the same problem you are describing and 9/10 times its always faulty capacitors that simply need removing and replacing. A simple 20 minute job if your handy with a soldering iron.

Please help mine is doing that right now. I am typing on a black screen until I am ready to send it. I don't know what to do. This is not good we use it every day!
