Hello good people!

I'm interested buying this 17 inch dell mobile workstation. I'm a bit undecided about which option for the graphics card to go with, since I'm really having a concern with the internal components as far as heat is concerned especially regarding the lifespan of the graphics card and other pc Components.

My previous dell precision 7740 had its Nvidia graphics card Quadro P4200 failed and I ended up using the Intel graphics card after disabling that Quadro card. I couldn't tell why that graphics card failed but I thought maybe it was due to heating effect due to its high TDP. This time I wanted a good pc with a graphics card that is made with a newer nanometer like the 8nm of these A3000 or A4000 category since heating will be minimized but I'm a bit hesitant going with the A4000 variant as it has a TDP of 140wats.

The A3000 has a TDP of 70wats, which I see as good and can allow me to even use CAD app on battery before recharging. I know there's a performance difference between these two cards but I'm really concerned about the lifespan of the laptop plus the graphics card. Does it mean if I'm using same app for example rendering app? Is it that the pc running A3000 will always have low temps while rendering while the of running on A4000 will have it's temps spike since this card has a higher TDP value?

Will gladly appreciate your response.

Graphics cards can fail for a number of reasons, heat is one of them but so is if your laptop had an electrical issue on the motherboard.

Yes it'll consume less power but as you've stated the power reduction is due to the fact that the GPU is also reduced in the performance department. IMHO, you can prolong the lifespan of your laptop by changing the thermal paste and pads to something higher in quality. A maintenance run, checking if your laptop's cooling vents are clogged can also be a good practice, as well as making sure you're on the latest BIOS version.

Just an FYI, if you're looking at any laptop with a mobile processor from the past 5 years, they all run hot, regardless of what their TDP states. Intel and AMD both say that 100 Deg C on your laptop is a normal thing, as opposed to say a decade ago. So this leads me to ask what sort of temps you're looking at when you're referring to the laptop overheating...? if it's not thermal throttling, then the laptop is not overheating.

I couldn't tell why that graphics card failed but I thought maybe it was due to heating effect due to its high TDP.
Have you thought about replacing the GPU with a like-for like card?

Thanks a lot of the insight you've given me about the temperatures as far as the pc issues goes, ok for my previous laptop that had its Quadro p4200 failed, I'm not considering either replacing the graphics card or even doing more modification to the laptop, as at now my eyes are set to acquiring the precision 7760 with either rtx A3000 or A4000, let me ask this, in your own opinion, which model between these two do you think will have it's internal components last longer during heavy renderings usage,do you think I'm likely to have a shorter pc lifespan with the A4000
