The secret to buying from Dell is to customize your computer very well and research as many components simply buy going to their websites. For example I checked out the graphics card ATI Radeon 4870 1 gig and I saw that it was one of their top of the line graphics card. I play Crysis, Street Fighter 4 and all my other games very well. The games run very smoothly with excellent graphic detail. I also knew that most computer games now need at least 512MG graphic memory to run, and also knew that significant system memory may be allocated to support graphics, depending on system memory size and other factors. So what that means is that your windows OS will take a certain portion of memory from your graphics card.

Dell has changed the name of Studio XPS 435 to Studio XPS 9000. Now you can add the ATI Radeon HD 5870 1 GB GDDR graghics card instead of the OEM nVidia GTS 240 1024MB or the ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB graphics cards.

I have to have a very good computer because I'm an internet psychic at www.keen.com/clairvoyant+christopher I make money with my computer. I also use Cacheman 7 which speeds and optimizes windows OS very well. http://cacheman.outertech.com to download the latest version of Cacheman. You can try it before you buy it.

I predict that this computer will last me at least 4 years and then I will consider buying the Alienware line of computers or I will build my own. I think that I got a good price and a good value from Dell.

guys.. even tho this is a similar and rebranded 9800gt as many said,
the price really diff u know, i live in MY and 9800gt cost 400 (512mb)(480 1gb),but u know how much this GTS 240 cost me ? only 280! and it beats
9800gt that is priced at 400, 280(1gb)-480(1gb) is a huge diff, plus i got the performance too.

I've dealt with many Dells including a dimension 2350 that still runs to this day. Just like any product ever made quality is a crapshoot. I will never buy a big box desktop again though. In fact many of the techies I know, including myself, swear by Dell laptops. Unfortunately my Inspirion 1520 has a crappy Foxconn motherboard and 8600m GT which amazingly has not failed yet, (knock on wood) oh well time to get a Studio XPS 16.

I was lucky to get my Dell Studio XPS 435T on sale. And it's a great computer. The graphics card does run a little hot.

THG today has a review of the GT 210 and 220 cards - the ones that are supposedly just rebranded models that clair keeps referring to as OEM cards.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gt-220,2445-18.html

The review states:

I'll first say that the new GeForce GT 220 and 210 represent class-leaders as far as power usage is concerned. They also add some new-to-Nvidia features, such as DirectX 10.1, enhanced video decode capabilities, and an integrated audio controller that can handle eight-channel LPCM audio over HDMI (from a discrete card).

Gee looks like they are not just rebranded cards.

And here are several different GT 220 cards for sale in retail versions.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=gt+220

Gee I guess they are not just OEM cards either.

Yep gotta love Dell sales. My 1520 was 1500 but with discounts and a coupon I got it got 1000. Really can't complain. It still is a decent mobile workhorse.

This is one of the most ridiculous threads I've ever read, actually signed up just for this.
You're comparing cards intended for HTPC's / Low end market with a 4870 and then claiming that it's because the ATI is BETTER QUALITY?! Are you serious?
You then claim that in order to use such cards you would have to tweak in-game settings, so are you under the impression that most people play games on default every time?

You also claim that 'some of your games' require Dx11 in order to play, do you honestly know how many Dx11 games are currently released? One. Just the one.
With a whole one more by the end of the year in EU/US, woo and yay.

Rage over, didnt even bother mentioning how claiming another recent card is outdated compared to a 5850 is mind bendingy stupid. Owait.

If the performance of your Dell XPS 435T - that you only purchased are few months ago - is so good, why are you already asking in a new thread started just two weeks after you started this one - on Oct 1 - whether you should now purchase an Alienware computer of build your own? You said this one would last you 4 years.

And why in a post on this thread on Oct. 12 - twelve days after starting the other - are you still ranting about how "it is a great computer". That would indicate you still think it is "the best" as stated in your thread title - but you never mention that you have already apparently outgrown the best - not in 4 years but in 2 weeks?

Or is all of this just a cover as you try to advertise your business - you boasted earlier in this thread about how it has gotten you new customers.

For those interested in following his self promotion - the other thread is:

Meh, this guy's BS. I bet I have more experience than him, but that's not much considering a peanut knows more than him. Seriously, I'm not even in the middle of my teens but I find his explanation and non-existent defence have got more holes than swiss cheese and more loops than a rollercoaster.

1: The 4870 obviously beats the GT220 in performance, but not in quality; that depends on the ODM. My old DIY PC had a Celeron D CPU and a Chaintech FX5200, 8 years old and still running. A newer OEM PC my friend got had a Q6600 and a 8600GS. His PC failed pretty fast. One's a budget system, the other was meant for gaming. He beat mine in performance, but not in quality.
2: The GT220 was a test platform for NVidia to experiment with the 40nm process + new features, just like what ATI did with the 4770. NVidia chose the simple design of the GT220 to test it out, because any flaws could be easily corrected with a simple GPU design. Good thinking, rather than jumping straight into the high-end, complex GPUs to move into 40nm.

My current PC is an OEM from Compaq, reliable, but not-so-powerful and overpriced. Just to say STAY AWAY FROM PREBUILTS.

The Alienware computer will not only enhance his Clairvoyant abilities, but it will also allow Christopher to make contact with extra-terrestrial beings, therebye expanding his consciousness even further, into the outer layers of the universe.

Alienware, a rebadged dell with a little alien logo.

unfortunately its not out of this world anymore except in the price..

The were better when they were their own company until dell bought them. Saying that im sure thats the same case with Voodoo and HP.

It is a confusing topic though, it's easy to see how someone could get confused...but a Clairvoyant ??...that just shouldn't happen, step up your clairvoyancy sonny.

See, nVidia and ATI don't even make any video cards, or atleast most of them are made by a third-party manufacturer.

I don't quite understand this whole thing myself, and to me, it pisses me the eff off, because for example I was researching ATI 4870 cards myself...came to find out that some run FARRR more hot then others, like twice as hot, depending on which manufacturer...I think this was attributed to differences in the cooling system, though there may have been other factors as well, but the point is, IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY THE EXACT SAME MODEL OF CARD THE ATI 4870, so 2 models which to the average person appear to be the exact same model: are very different in reality, due to different manufacturers having made them.

That sht pisses me the F off, so now not only to you have to research which GPU you want, but then you have to do further research (time-consuming niggly research) to find out which 3rd party manufacturers are most desirable, run the coolest etc...

unbelievable this computer sht

It can hard to find discussions on which cards of a particular model run the coolest, hell most people haven't owned 2 of the same card by different manufacturers to be able to tell people.

actually thats no so true - when nvidia brought out the 8800 gtx - there were reference cards which at that time manufacturers put their own labeled box around - evga was one and when i was sold it there were many rebadgers then

I too am surprised that they let posters such as clair continue to post glaring errors as I and others pointed out. But perhaps it is because we point out the errors so others are not lead astray and no real harm is done other than waisting everyones time. But still you would think they would have a limit to how many times they let a person keep posting the same wrong information.

i'm having trouble computing the following: "thats no so true" "reference cards" "rebadgers"

Yeah nvidia made the origional batch of video cards to get them to reviewers and in the supply chain - theyre called rebadgers if you like.. this is to get the card out to people like evga to sell as they dont have the manufacturing ability to make them as quick as they come out... Asus make their own up, Gigabyte, Sparkle, PNY modify the origional design and make there own - enhance it if you like thats why some videocards with the same chip are faster than overs - overclocking tweeks for example.

Hellboy,

You know so much about graphics cards. You have such a vast knowledge about graghic cards.
