So I'm new to building and got an old T7500. I was originally having problems with it freezing and then shutting off. At first it could run for hours, then maybe an hour at most. Eventually it got to the point where it would not make it to post.
Turns out there was an integrated chip which is not identified anywhere in the mobo schematic. Fried to hell. Super old thermal pad was caked to both the chip and heat sink. The fan over it is simply called "processor fan and heatsink" in the service manual despite main CPU being on the other side of the board and the CPU 2 + riser not installed. I originally thought the fan was present in the event of installing the second CPU.

Service manual's mobo schematic that completely overlooks the fan and chip between 21 and 22: View: https://imgur.com/lh3y2BX
Unidentified (to me) chip beneath the "processor fan": View: https://imgur.com/l64o972
LED codes were not consistent during troubleshooting. Sometimes it would indicate low power state of PSU, sometimes wouldn't identify SATA drive, mostly it would say memory problem, once it even said problem with PCI slot. All removable components were tested with a friend's desktop and confirmed to be in working condition. Is the chip an integrated memory controller? Specifically SATA II? If so, would installing a PCI SATA III card be an alternative to replacing the entire mobo? Forgive me if I am way off on my guess. I'm still learning and was curious what the component was.
TL;DR Located component causing freezing and inability to complete post, but cannot identify it. An extensive search on part numbers , previous threads, and service manual comes up with nothing definitive. Any ideas?
