Deltachrome review at Firingsquad

Actually looks quite promising, especially when you consider the early stages of the driver.

Sure as hell looks more attractive than the Volari. I hope S3 gets their drivers up to snuff, the graphics world NEEDS more competitors...

Those numbers look pretty promising. Considering how early those drivers are, it seems like a pretty impressive card. Does anyone have a link to early Radeon/FX cards with beta drivers to compare?

Wow, a weak pixel shader, this is great! I hope the cards blow some motherboards for people and cause all kinds of driver conflicts too.

It's certainly better than XGI Volari, but it can do only 2x AA

Weak yes, but it looks better than the GeforceFX's shaders in some cases...

Man, you guys are hard to impress.

Weak by what definition? A small company has produced better shaders than the megacorporation Nvidia has.

I'm sure the shaders are very technically robust... even Nvidia has put millions of dollars of research into their shader hardware. The only reason you guys aren't impressed is that Ati's shaders were created so elegantly and ahead of their time.

But that shouldn't diminish S3's accomplishments here. Blast it, give credit where it's due you elitist hardcore mofos!

Is that model the biggest baddest they make? They got anything to compete in the high end?

Some of those scores gotta be embarassing for nvidia.

I don't think so. The card tested is their midrange offering (the S8).

Their high-end offering, the F1, isn't benchmarked in these tests. The fellows at Firingsquad figure the F1 will never see the light of day, as it was intended to compete with the 5900's and 9800 non-pros... but those cards are already coming down to the affordable $200 price point so the F1 doesn't stand a chance at that price.

Either that or they're improving the F1 before release.

hey man, just because nVidia screwed up their shader once, doesn't mean they'll keep on screwing up........ I HOPE!!

How hard is it really to beat Nvidia's shaders though?

A monkey could do it.

But no guarantees that they won't.

It'll be interesting to see how the next gen (4 series) parts will work since the 32bit versus 24bit wil no loger be an issue since they will both be 32bit. Then we'll see who has the most efficient methods.

Oh, that would dissapoint. IT might make sense depending on their gains in performance, but it would be a little of a let down. I thought they were supposed to be DX9.1 cards, but maybe that's R450? Well I guess we'll know for sure when they come out in the new year.

Speaking of which, Happy Holidays, and a Joyous New Year!
