Hello,
When I click on a desk top icon to open a program it asks which program I want to use to open it. It gives me the choice of either internet explorere or Adobe and of course browse for other options. I am using windows vista.

When I click on a desk top icon to open a program it asks which program I want to use to open it. It gives me the choice of either internet explorere or Adobe and of course browse for other options. I am using windows vista.

Somehow, your program / file associations have been changed, or corrupted, possible due to some type of infection.
Run your AV scan.
Also, if the computer IS NOT INFECTED, choose a restore point prior to this error happening and perform a Windows System Restore.
or run sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt.
