Well, if you failed to retain the purchase receipt or invoice for the
computer, try going through your other financial records, such as your
checkbook, bank statements, or credit card statements. There's
certainly no way anyone frequenting this newsgroup could have access to
your records.

Also, please unstick your CapsLock key. Posting in all caps, as
you have done, is the Usenet equivalent of shouting, and is considered
very rude by a large number of people. More importantly, posting in all
caps makes the post harder to read, further reducing your chances of
getting help.

The only thing you can determine is the month and year
Windows XP was installed. Perform the following:

1. Open XP's "Help and Support" and click on "Use Tools to view your computer info....."
2. Click on "Get information about your computer".
3. Then click on "View the status of my system hardware and software"
and look under "System Software - Date Created".

man I hate bold today
maybe look at properties of some of the program folders that you installed
and those will show creation dates.
....what would you have downloaded and installed right off the bat ?

In explorer window right-click on the windows folder. Whatever date it says
it was created tell them that. They won't know any different anyway. And if
they tell you that isn't right then tell them obviously they know the
correct date it was purchased so why did you need to tell them in the first
place!

How in the world can Aida32 (which is now available as Everest Home
Edition, btw) possibly determine when the computer was purchased? All
Aida32 can do is determine when the OS was last installed, which is a
very different thing.

Well, for one thing, maybe the OS was installed when he bought the computer.

Then you wouldn't need any third party software to tell you that now would
you. The creation date on the windows directory would tell you that.

I suppose you could have just pointed out your way instead of putting
someone down.

Unless he has a receipt I do not think he can tell the date of purchase of
his PC although stickers on the case or inside often give the date of
manufacture.

Beyond this Bruce is not as dumb as Jack seems to think, because Everest
home edition (formerly Aida) will tell him:
The date of the mother board
The installation date of the OS
and
If he then goes to Windows Update|History he can get history the first
patch installed

These three numbers will give a reasonable good fix on when that he first
started using thee computer and depending on his circumstances some idea of
when he bought it.

There's a very slim possibility of that being the case. More likely
than not, though, the OS was imaged onto the PCs hard drive weeks (or
even months) before the OP went to the store and made his purchase
decision. Such suppositions are of little value when the OEM is trying
to establish proof-of-purchase to determine whether or not the OP is
entitled to any support.

Whose supposition is of little value, mine or yours? They're both
suppositions. Yours is probably as slim as mine.
