I have a Gateway notebook with a Toshiba DVD/CD-RW
SD-R6112 installed, but the properties of the device is
identified in Windows as a Toshiba DVD/CD-ROM. It seems
to be a conflict of device identity. My problem is that I
can not format a CD for RW application. I would like to
resolve this issue. Is there some way to change the
identification in Windows XP Professional to recognize
the device for what it is?

The SD-R6112 is a DVD R-RW and CD-RW combo drive. The
best places to get information about your problem are:
1) Gateway
2) Toshiba

This is a driver issue, not a WinXP issue.

Good Luck !
