So, I just bought an X800XT AIW and an ATi Silencer 4. Yet, as I am trying to install the cooler, I don't see how to put in on. Unless I am that retarted, is this the wrong cooler and should I buy the ATi Silencer 1 instead???? I feel so dumb asking this question...

Retarted is spelled retarded... and it's not getting any better from here :). I looked at Artic Cooling's web site and it doesn't support the AIW cards.
I have an X850XT AIW and I used a passive cooling sink. Mines from Zalman. Works great and no noise! If you have good ventilation in your case you might want to check that out.

If you referred to This Artic Cooling Chart, you would indeed see that you chose the wrong heatsink. According to this chart, the ATI Silencer1 rev.2 MAY work. They list a height restriction chart here.

They don't specifically state that the S1 will work with an X800XT, so you may want to fire an e-mail off to them here.

You may or may not be able to return the S4 now that you have opened it. Contact your vendor to find out. You may also want to consider a thermalright cooler... but again, check the supported cards on the manufacturers website.

*Making snide remarks doesn't help the OP, obviously younger, and just has painted himself into a corner. He made the mistake of not checking complete compatability... something I am sure EVERYONE has or will do sometime!

Well, I checked Thermalright and their coolers are not compatible 🙁
Anyhow, what does anyone reccomend then? I'm thinking either a Zalman VF700 AlCu or Cu version or the ATi Silencer 1 Rev. 2. The reason why I'm considering the ATi Silencer is because it will exhaust the hot air out. Please tell me your opinion and WHY which one is better. Thanks.

The ATI silencer does have the exhaust advantage. Just make sure it fits the AIW edition of your card. The AIW have some extra chips on them that may interfere with installation.
Really though, either way is probably just fine. I've got a couple Zalman sinks and have been impressed by their quality, so I'm biased to them, but the silencers always get decent reviews, too.

I have been using AC Silencers from the beginning. If HIS thinks they are good enough for their top end products, good enough for me! I like to be able to switch between "quiet" and full settings, when it is an option. I also like the rear exhaust, thus getting the hot air out of your box, istead of adding to the internal case temps. Unless your AIW is a non-standard design, the ATi Sil1 r2 should be fine. You may have to switch out your ramsinks, or do some minor cutting or filing, but no big deal.

The Zalman's of today perform very well. However, you can still have fitment problems with them. Again, the heat pulled from vid-card, is dumped into your system interior.

I bought the X800XT at Buy.com. A weeklater, I found that a few more e-tailers lowered their prices even more. Usually I purchase from Zipzoomfly.com or Newegg, whichever is cheaper
