I'll make this short and sweet.

I bought an e6850. I wasn't terribly impressed with the performance.

I downloaded the Intel Processor ID utility.

My expected speed is 3.0ghz, 1333FSB.
My actual speed for BOTH cores is 2.39ghz, 1066FSB.
L2 cache memory for each core is 4MB.

Did I get sold an e6600 that was just rebranded an e6850?

Is there any other way to check?

read the CPU speed in the BIOS as windows may not read it correctly esp with that speedstep crap enabled

i assume u set it to 1333 in BIOS
 
just clock it up, find the default vcore,fsb and multi and bang em in! make sure ya ram is runnin at the correct speed!!??
 
I have a hunch, taht rather than use the 333FSB setting like it should of youjr MOBO is using 266FSB.

E6850 is basically a E6600 with 333FSB instead of 266, same multi n all.

That may be why.

EDIT: Actually now looking you said it was 1333FSB, well its speedstep, it reduces ur multi, probably lowered it down 2 to a 7multi to save energy and crap.

Run orthos at max and load CPU-Z up at the same time and see what it sais.
 
OKAY I downloaded Orthos, set it up, ran it concurrently with CPU-Z.

Using Orthos, the multiplier goes from 6 to 9, so the clock speed its 2399mhz. So looks like it's the bus, and whoever set up my system took the short one heh heh.
 
You can change it bck quite easily. Go into BIOS and simply set your FSB for 334 and make sure your RAM is constontly at that point or higher, it shouldnt need any voltager increases.

Also disable speedstep in your BIOS, so you can tell straight on startup what your speed is.

It SHOULD work completly stable.
 
All right, I took it to the retailer. They said they needed to see the bus to 266 so that it can post, and that they were supposed to bring it back up to 333 after they set everything up. They forgot to do the last part.

It's now functioning properly. Thank you very much to everyone for all of your help!

If helping people actually bothers you, by all means avoid these kinds of threads.
 
Relax, it's not that big of a deal. Unfortunately the people that put PCs together don't get paid that much, and yes, make mistakes. He was just giving you a little touch because you didn't build it yourself. That is far better than buying a Dell, HP, Gate... you get the idea, you are above the masses, continue to learn and grow, then you will be the guy with advice, and the occasional touch.
 


I don't think thats his intention, he just said that you might go about wording you post differently. You might get more help/attention that way. What does CPU-Z say about your CPU?
