Difference between AC and DC PSU and which could i use?

I am in the early stages of building and Extern GPU inut that requires am ATX PSU to power the video card and the power on switch. I want to make the casr as small and compact as possible. I dont know if Standard ATX is AC or DC but can i use sething like a laptop charger (external) and have extensions for the molex and 24 pin?

You may either use standard pc psu or use picopsu+12V power adapter

ATX PSUs take AC power and convert it to DC power for the PC.
