Difference between two AMD processor? What is black edition?

What is the difference between these two processors? The more expensive one is slower, yet it has a bunch of very good review, and top seller on newegg.

Which one is worth the money? I plan on playing BF2, but I have never overclocked before, is it easy or hard to do?
 
Well with an unlocked multiplier it's much easier. Instead of changing the FSB and HT, you just up the CPU's multiplier. With non black edition CPU's, the multiplier can only be decreased as the maximum value is locked. Although raising the multiplier is the easiest way to overclock your CPU, it overclocks only your CPU. When overclocking by raising the FSB, you can increase the performance of the entire system, not just the CPU.

If you know for sure that you won't overclock, then buy the non black edition as the black edition comes without a heatsink. It is assumed that by buying the black edition, you'll be overclocking and overclocking will require a better heatsink than the factory heatsink so it's not included. Therefore, if you're not going to overclock, buy the non black edition. Otherwise, you'll have to spend extra money to buy a heatsink for the black edition.
 
arson94 got is totally right...the BE will oc very easily but will require an afterstock heatsink...you could get the 6000+ which is already clocked at 3.0ghz so don't really have to oc it but then again you pay more than $40 bucks more for it...but then again it does come with a heatsink...
 
Ha thanx Ahslan. Actually, the 6000+ is only $84.99 at NewEgg once you use EMCAGBABC $40 coupon code 😉 I don't know how long this is good for as it saw it on Slickdeals.net. The only thing to beware about this CPU is that it's a 125W CPU and not all boards can handle 125W. If the board can handle it, then the 6000+ is probably the better deal despite the 125W TDP and older 90nm architecture. The one thing I do still like about the 6000+ is that it has 2x1MB of L2 cache. The 65nm CPU's all have 2x512MB of L2 cache.
 
Not all 6000s are 125w, some are 95w. In most cases you won't know which one you received until you install it (damn etailers).
 
Black edition has an unlocked multiple,but it comes without a cooler.If you don't intent to overclock buy 6000+ and games will go nice.
 



This is the first I've heard of some 6000+'s being 95W... I just wonder I haven't seen this before.
 
Well as far as I knew before they were all 125W TDP and we all know that doesn't fly with some boards. But still, even though some are 95W TDP, do we know for sure if that's what we're getting or not? But yea, I still see what you're saying. 3Ghz is fast enough and I'm sure you could raise the FSB some anyway to get a little more if you wanted. It's older 90nm technology, but it does have the long lost 1MBx2 L2 cache that doesn't exists in the newer 65nm X2's. I don't understand why they got rid of half of the cache in the new dual cores...
 
Overclocking is new to me too. i have black edition 6400+ but wouldn't have a clue how to overclock. Do i have to adjust anything else apart from the multiplier to emsure system stability? i have got a srtic freezer pro heatsink on my system if that helps.
 
Go with Black edition, I got it last week. With the unlocked multiplier it's a piece of cake to OC. Just raise the multiplier and that's it. At 3200 you can run your DDR2 800 memory at full speed (CPU/8). Requires a bit of overvoltage. I keep it at 3Ghz at stock voltage since it's hot here during the summer in Romania.

If you keep it at 3Ghz by only raising the multiplier then you have a 15x mulitplier. Giving you a memory divider of 8. This means you are only running your RAM at DDR2-750 speeds bboysil... Bump up that FSB to about 214 and you'll be golden.
 
Black editiom fo an AMD processor is something you cant really understand. When you own a black edition amd Processor everything goes right. BiRDS sing, onitor shows the high quality picture @ 25x16 in Crysis, Sun shines. When you're hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road, there doesn't come a demon and he doesnt want you to sing him a best song ever. There shines a shiny girl, with actually big brests and not fat and shes beatifull and tells you " dude, you own a phenom black edition, wanna see something funny?" And then there will appear a window with 2 possible answers and you click "yes' but that's a trap. There shines a shiny demon and he says: "Sing the best song in the world, or I eat your hopes, for your 9850be to ebat the q6600, and you try to sing the song, but you cant, because you are atually bad at singing best song ever. and so he eats your hopes.
 
And it continues and you understand that you'd betetr buy the q6600 becaue you wouldnt have met a demon then, and he wouldnt have said such dirty things to you and wouldnt have eaten your hopes. And your life would be avarage and bird's would thing only at the morning and monitor wouldnt show a picture of 25x16 in crysis. but again you won't care about it because you'll have the q6600 which is stillbetter than that phenom black edition and you'll find you love with those actually big brests and not fat and beatifull and you'll be lucky and... and....
