I will be buying a new rig very soon with 8700K and i plan to OC it.
i wondered what are the differences between these motherboards:

Gigabyte HD3, HD3P and XP-SLI.

well, the latter support SLI, thats easy.
but would one be better for OC than the others?

what about models from ASUS, MSI?

Solution

Among those three Gigabyte motherboards, difference in OC capabilities would probably tend to be dependent more on the quality of the 8700K chip you get and your cooling solution than these motherboards being compared. The HD3, HD3P, and XP-SLI have similar power phase design (4 + 3), and if I'm not mistaken, uses same Intersil ISL95866 PWM controller...

from the specs they are pretty much the same except the SLI support and the audio chipset, i already knew that.
my question is about the things that the specs cant tell you, like OC performance.

i dont care much about the audio chipset because i use external DACs and AMPs.
i dont plan on SLI due to its current state but it could be a nice bonus.

if these two things are the only differences i would just go for the cheapest one.

M.2 support is nice, i might upgrade my SSD at some point.
video output isnt important as long as i get at least 1.
audio chipset isnt important, i use external DACs and AMPs.
aesthetics wont matter, its in the case, who cares :)

They also have the same VRM heatsink (though the XP-SLI has those white accents on it plus an I/O shroud above one of the heatsinks).

The main differences, as per you question, are as follows:

TY for the input.
if OC is the same i guess i will go with the cheapest one as it satisfy my needs.
