Howdy. Im getting a new 2500+ barton soon to replace my palomino 2000+. Now at newegg there are 2 different types to get...
<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=19-103-379&refer=pricewatch" target="_new"> This one here, says its AXDA2500BOX. A retail box</A>
<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=19-103-378&refer=pricewatch" target="_new"> And this one, says its AXDA2500DKV4D, OEM</A>
Now Id like to know the difference, as they are both $90.
Im starting to think they are different cores, or stepping or something. One is retail box, and one is OEM. If the OEM one is a better core for ocing, id probably get that. But if theyre the same, just grab the retail.

<i>Royal Fusileres, Company C</i>

they are the same core...oem vs. retail means nothing in the actual steppings or anything

OEM original equipment manufacturer...basically these cpus come with a short warantee 30 days and come with no heatsink or fan...they normally come in a brown box...not retail pakaging...normally they are cheeper

Retail cpus...come with cpu...heatsink....fan...instructions ..a 3 year warantee....and come in the nice pretty retail container....

Normally oem is cheeper than retail...however if they are the same price go for the retail...longer warantee...and free case fan...

So easy to fry yet tastes so good...

For overclocking, you have to know the stepping, which newegg doesn't give you a clue. But if you don't want to try your luck, get the retail box (same price as OEM, why not get the one with some extra goodies?).

If I agree with you... will you shut up?
