See screenshot. I'm pretty sure that the numberin is different argus vs HWMonitor here. Looks like:
  • CPU in HWM -> Fan 1 in Argus
  • SYS1 -> Fan 3
  • SYS3 -> Fan 5
  • SYS6 -> Fan 8
Does that seem right? Why is the numbering different? I think the HWM numbering follows how the headers are identified on my mobo, so I guess the question is why does Argus not use that numbering?

it looks like it just allocates the numbers of fans based on headers. HWMonitor isn't showing fan headers with no fans, Argus is showing them all. What happens if you don't track the headers that aren't recording a total? do the fan numbers change? the descriptions on the Argus ones probably let you rename them?

Its possible the only way you will find that answer is asking Argus - https://www.argusmonitor.com/contact.php
there isn't a lot on it on web I can see.
I would have thought it got it from the bios as well.

Not enough info in the help file - https://help.argusmonitor.com/Fancontrol.html

I would guess HWINFO shows same info as HWMonitor does for them, could use it as a 3rd opinion.
