I have been awaiting the availability of the Prescott chip for the
Dimesion 8300 when last night I received an email from the Sales Op I
had been dealing with 6 weeks ago (the Prescott Chip systems were
advertised then withdrawn) offering me the same system however instead
of the 3.2 Prescott chip, they are giving me the 3.2 Extreme Edition
chip at no extra cost. Is this a good deal and where is the catch
other than the EE chip is "older" technology.

If your sales rep is on the up and up, and you get it in writing, definitely
take them up on the offer. The 3.2 GHz Extreme Edition is averaging around
$620 (USD) more than the 3.2 GHz Prescott and you'll have superior
performance. Sounds too good to be true, though.

Really does. I've often been confused about why the prescot should be
so much more expensive though.

Too good to be trye but confirmed. I have put my order in and it is
the 3.2 GHz Extreme Edition chip with the 875 chipset, 1GB RAM,
120SATA drive and at AUD120 cheaper than the listed price for a 8300
with a 3.2Ghz northwood chip. Have a receipt confirming it all Woo HOO

What was the end price on it all? Can you cut and paste the entire
order into a post? I'm wondering if there was something *odd* about the
order that put it into a different category.

Congratulations on the coop d'etat.
