Dimension c521 upgrade

I have a dell dimension c521 and it has a AMD sempron 3400 1.8ghz processor. Am i able to upgrade to something faster?

Use cpuid to identify the motherboard chipset. It will determine whether a cpu upgrade may work. You might have better luck posting this in one of the dell forums.

Chances are you'll have a Nforce 430 chipset / 6150LE integrated video motherboard.

Most of the Dimension C521 owners are upgrading with the 65W AM2s like the Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2.8GHz $61 plus shipping or Athlon 64 X2 5200 Brisbane 2.7GHz $61 + free shipping

Some of the more adventurous have gone with the 89W AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Brisbane 3.1GHz or Athlon 64 X2 Dual-core 6400+ 3.20GHz Processor - ADX6400CZBOX

A few have used the 125W AM2 Athlon 64 X2 3.0 GHz $80. You'll need to follow the cooling advice you'll find in the Dell support forums for the hotter 125W CPUs.

Hi thanks for all your replys its much appreciated. The chipset i have is a nforce 410/430 mcp according to cpuid. Does this help in identifiing the cpu i could upgrade to? Thanks again
