Diminishing returns? How much card can my system handle? - running an i7-2600 on P8Z68 board, 16g ram

New video card desired - Where will I hit diminishing returns? I'm currently running a Radeon 6800 with 1gig GDDR5 on an i7-2600k on a P8Z68-VLX board, 16 gigs ram. 750W power supply. How much card should I get before my returns are limited by the rest of the system? Should I notice an obvious improvement with a new card? Any suggestions on model or specs I should be looking for? Thanks!

You have a decent system there , you could get a high end card, your 6800 is what is holding you back.
You could easily get a 7970/280x or a 770/780 and get a major improvement with excellent fps on any game with your system.
It just comes down to your budget really.

All the card you want, 2600K is as fast as it gets for gaming. Just make sure you overclock if you go for something super fast, assuming you haven't already.

for a single 1080p monitor up to a r9 290 or gtx780 would be no problem.
