Is there a way in XP Pro to force sound through the speakers even when
headphones are plugged in?

I need to switch between speakers and headphones all the time, and
it's a pain to deal with the front flap on me Dell tower as it sits on
the floor... on my old setup I used to plug right into the speakers
and could unplug easier.

Thanks

You are referring to a hardware issue, not anything that has to do with
Windows.

Most, if not all headphone connectors on computers are designed to mute the
speakers when the headphone jack is inserted, on the theory that if you
wanted to hear sound through the speakers you wouldn't be using headphones.

A place like Radio Shack might have a switch that will let you more easily
choose between headphones and speakers.

The standard mini plug jack IS THE SWITCH. The standard setup has six very thin
wires. Splicing in extention wires so that the jack could be moved to the top
of the case (or accross the room)might work.
