Disappearing Memory

Right now I'm using a MachSpeed motherboard with 4GB of memory in a 4 X 1GB configuration. It will only recognize 2.5GB of that memory. I have ruled out bad memory by booting numerous times using single and multiple modules. When I boot with 3 modules the post-up shows 2621440K of memory. With all 4 modules it will also only show 2621440K of memory. MachSpeed techsupport tells me that I "should" see 3GB at most but they're stumped as to why I see only 2.5GB. They tell me that because of bandwidth, I would need to use 2 X 2GB memory modules to see all 4GB. I'm now seriously considering just replacing the board with an ASUS P5-D motherboard. I'm wondering now though if this is a common problem when using 1GB memory modules and the problem will possibly follow me to another motherboard.

What OS are you running?
Find and launch msconfig.exe. Go to the Boot tab. Click the 'Advanced options' button. In the window that pops up, make sure "Maximum memory" is not checked.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 but that shouldn't make a difference because the bios is seeing only 2.5GB during the initial post when the machine boots.

you probably have XP or Vista 32 bir OS

these OSes can't recognize more than 2.5 or 3 gigs of RAM'

If you have Vista then you can see 3 gigs of RAM and if you have XP you will usually see only 2.5 gigs.

If you want to be able to see all 4 gigs oyu will have to buy a 64 bit OS

then maker sure you have a 64 bit capable motherboard some motherboards also can't recognize more than 3 gigs of RAM

The only option seems to be a new motherboard and that's what I've done.Tech support for Machspeed is next to useless. If they can't solve the problem they then ignore you. Lesson learned, don't buy a motherboard because it has a lifetime warranty.

Gry na rzecz czereda nie stale jest sposrod komputerem, jednakze multum innych rodzajow rozrywki, ze ludzie mlodzi dzieci gry-online ludzie sa w znacznym stopniu starszy ranga rezultat. Zbyt piosenki wielokrotnie przebywac w wirtualnym swiecie nie jest dobre i powinno istniec ograniczone gry dla dzieci do rozsadnych ramach czasowych.
