I've taken apart my old hp envy m6, which had a cracked screen, hooked it up to my desktop monitor with the cable I use for my desktop and nothing is appearing, no bios, Windows or anything, but the screen detects a cable is powered and plugged in by not going into its 5 min shutdown period. I've got all the original components in and intact. Anything I'm missing? I did take out the speakers and DVD drive, but fan is starting and the hard drive is going strong

Solution
Try to use the hot keys shortcut to extend the display to the monitor.
If it works well and good. If it doesent, you will need to get another similar LCD unit and install. Update the BIOS of the unit so that it is current.
