Question Discrepancy in WiFi & Ethernet Speeds Despite using router and or mesh network

Hey everyone,

I recently upgraded to a fiber internet connection, yay, and while the Ethernet speed is a blazing 600mbps, I'm experiencing a puzzling issue with my WiFi. Both the internet provider's router and my TP-Link Deco mesh network are delivering only around 50mbps and some times less.

I've tested the WiFi speeds on both networks, and it seems odd that both the router and the mesh are providing similar results. If there was a problem with the router's WiFi, I would expect the mesh to outperform it. Any thoughts on what might be causing this and potential solutions?

Here are a few details:

  • Internet provider: Country broadband
  • Router: [Fiber gateway GR241AG]
  • Mesh network: TP-Link Deco
  • WiFi speed: ~50mbps
  • Ethernet speed: 600mbps
Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Woza

Could be your pc wifi card since it is half the connection.

Most likely you are connecting using the 2.4g radio. You generally get well under 100mbps on 2.4g. You really want to use different SSID on the 2.4g and 5g radio so you can force the connection.

The key thing to know is all the wifi numbers are big lies. 130mbps or so is a common speed using the 5g radio at a somewhat reasonable distance. You will of course get a bit more sitting on top of the router. Adding anykind of repeater/mesh system to the mix is going to cut your speeds....many times by at least 1/2

I had a similar issue this week where I was limited to 200 mb. I found that my deco had QOS enabled and the cap set at 200. Once I disabled it, everything went back to 800. Might not be your issue, but it’s easy to check.
