Is there any reason i3 CPUs still existing. I mean, 2 cores/4 threads cpus are out of the game in 2K17 at this price! You have Pentium at much cheaper prices with 2C/4TH, then you have 4/4 i5s for about 50$ more than an i3 and then i7s and i9s. i don't want to get into the pc master race intel vs amd but except the reasons above do you think an average consumer would consider a 4/8 amd CPU even if the single core perf is not as good as intel's... But still... worth the money and the 2 core tech in 2K17?
In a parallel universe, if I were the Intel owner...
pentium 2/4
i5 4/4, 4/8
i7 8/8, 8/16
i9 everything else more than 8 cores.
I want to hear your opinions.

Honestly i'd like to see it like this: i7 8c/16t, i5 6c/12t, i3 4c/8t, pentium 2c/4t and celeron 2c/2t. I meant that would make the most sense in my opinion.
I can see Intel making a 4 core i3 later on, and keeping the Pentium a 2 core 4 thread.

Anyway I still have a an i3 3220t in a gateway system thats been moved to a low profile case, I still use it for a low powered media server, I did have a Pentium G3258 I sold to my uncle, but all he does is watch youtube and brows the internet and listens to music.

There is contently a place for i3's and Pentium's, Maybe not for gaming but for home use, that Pentium G3258 still kicks some butt, I recently got him into Path of Exile and with a GT630 it runs it just fine, but he will probably never be a big time gamer.

I never really recommended the i3 to anyone, Now that AMD is kicking some butt there is no reason to recommend the i3 to anyone these days.

Though I am curious how the next gen i5's and i7s are gonna turn out, a 6 core i5 with no HT would be vary interesting, though Intel's marketing is not vary good...

Didn't thought of the 6/12 yeah probably the most legit climax of cpus. What about the new entry i9? It'll be such an overkill and no consumer friendly!

I meant that for mainstream like Z270/Z370 etc, for X299 I think its stupid to have an i3 and i5 on a high end platform basically anything below 8 cores does not belong on a HEDT platform. It is complete and utter nonsense imo.

I agree to a point, any enthusiast chip from now on should be at the vary least a 6c 12t with more PCI-E lanes than the main stream 6 cores chips. But 8 core should be the go to chip for that platform, but I'm sure Intel will overcharge for them.

Them quad cores thats on x299 make zero sense, I could have forgive them if they had more PCI-E lanes or supported quad channel since you are going with a more expensive board, but even then it wouldn't make much sense as quad cores are the bear min for games.

It would be interesting to see how Intel responds with its next Mainstream and Enthusiast platforms, I just hope they don't screw it up like x299.

Yeah i'll give you that, the quad core i7 could make it if they gave you more pci-e lanes. But yeah a more expensive cpu, with the same everything as a 7700k and no igpu makes no sense. But an i5? no thats not a high end cpu.
