Make sure your HD is on master and the EIDE cable is in the Primary chanel. Also, make sure the red line on the EIDE cable is connected to the first pin. If the drive have no slave, set the jumper to default position. some time it doesn't recognized the drive if you left it on master.
Did you specified the HD in the Bios? Or have the Bios search for HD. hope this helps

Sounds like the bios needs to recognise the hdd, have it auto detect it, if it dosent, then you may need to put the data in manually, what is the os on the hdd?

Also check the boot sequence in your BIOS.

OK, make sure it is pluged in to the power, make sure the IDE cable goes on the right way and is plugged into the primary connector, make sure your hard drive is set to "master" on the drive itself, get into bios and set it to autodetect the drive.
If it is already detecting the drive and still gives you that message, you will need to use a boot floppy, format the drive. If you can't format the drive, run FDISK, remove any partitions and repartition. Then restart and format. You will then need to run setup from your CD. If you don't know how to do all this, find someone with a lot of patience.
