Any benefit using HDMI or DisplayPort for gaming?

Setup will be a 240Hz 1440p display connected to a 7800XT with a 5700x3d CPU. Monitor does support FreeSync if that matters. DP 1.4 / HDMI 2.1
Will be gaming the newer additions of the BF series and probably some Forza and maybe MS Flight Sim.
Thanks in advance!

Doesn't really matter these days for modern monitors where DP used to have the clear advantage for higher refresh rates, it's much closer now since Hdmi 2.1. Check your monitor's manual on what each connection is capable of as freesync is supported on either then go from there. If both are equal then use Hdmi as it's a simpler plug to insert.

Check the monitor's user manual. I was surprised to find with the Sansui monitor I got for my son at Christmas that to get the 180Hz maximum refresh rate, you had to use the DP. With the hdmi the max was 144Hz. I don't know why this is the case, but I happened to notice it when comparing it with another brand. It's a 2560x 1440 monitor. Super sharp display...

Good question. The newest video cards have 1 HDMI and 3 DP so I automatically figured that DP was better. Seems HDMI 2.1 has tremendous bandwidth. Is it possible to even have 2 HDMI 2.1 feeding two fast refresh monitors?

Thanks for posting that link. It was an interesting read. Gets a little too technical for an Average Joe, but, ultimately, there seem to be only nuance level differences when you're talking about consumer - not enthusiast - level uses with PC's.

The one thing that always directed me to hdmi was audio. Yet, while reading this article, I googled if sound was carried by DP - which I always thought wasn't. Evidently, it is - which is news to me! I always erred to hdmi for that issue alone. Yet, that's not a consideration if you have a dedicated sound card as I do. But those considerations were based on TV and satellite hook ups to decisions on PC needs.

Anyway, thanks for posting that!

DP audio only really concerns monitors with speakers because Hdmi is the more dominant connection everywhere else. However, DP to Hdmi converters can still carry audio, for instance if were to send audio from graphics card DP port to an Avr/Soundbar with Hdmi input.

...had no idea. My experience from 7 or so years ago was that you needed to carry an audio line with the DP because the DP was, as the name tends to indicate, display only.

How would I determine or allow or whatever the audio over a DP?

As an aside, DP usually adopts full range RGB colour whereas HDMI may go for the YUV colour space which is inferior. This is not a big problem because RGB can be toggled on in the driver settings, but it is something to be on the lookout for.
