News DJI narrowly escapes U.S. drone ban, for now — company has one year to demonstrate its products don’t pose a national security risk

I find the idea of this ban a bit ridiculous. As of now, there have been no publicly confirmed reports that DJI consumer drones have been sending sensitive data, photos/video back to DJI servers or to China without the user's knowledge. It's just the US saying "Ban 'em all just in case!"

While I also understand the ban could help push development of US manufactured drones, there currently are zero 'consumer' level drones made in the US. There are drone manufacturers here, such as skydio, teal, altavian, etc., but those are all specialized, militarized, and extremely expensive. Can't just go out and buy one from Amazon.

Give us an affordable drone with exceptional quality like DJI makes before you go off and ban one of the only decent drone manufacturers in the world.

I'm not a big fan of banning companies like DJI straight off the bat so this seems like a semi-logical move from the regulators in the US. 1 year seems like a good amount of time for DJI to do what they need to, although I'm not a fan of government asking for proof of innocence instead of the other way around.
