GNS3 Version: GNS3 v2.2.52
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
VMWare Workstation Pro 17
Oracle Virutal Box 7.1.4
CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X3D

Hello everyone, i m currently trying to setup GNS3 on my new PC for my CCNA studies but i ran into this problem. (I had no issues installing it on a Intel CPU system with Windows 8.)

I installed the GNS3VM in VMWare Workstation Pro (Yes the GNS3VM and the GNS3 Version are the same). After i try to setup everything in GNS3 and the VM starts opening in Workstation Pro i get the following Message:

Virtualized AMD-V/RVI is not supported on this platform.

Continue without virtualized AMD-V/RVI?

I suspected the BIOS option might be off, but all 3 SVM options are either enabled, or on AUTO.
After researching I came to the (hopefully right) conclusion it must be a Problem with Windows 11's VBS (Virtualization-based security) and/or Hyper-V.

After doing A LOT of tutorials (Reddit, google, ChatGPT, youtube) it is still enabled on my PC: (msinfo32 shows virtualization-based security "running" and "A hypervisor has been detected. Features required for Hyper-V will not be displayed")

I also tried setting it up with Virtual Box instead, running into a similar problem. The option Enable Nested VT - AMD-V is just greyed out and i can't set a checkmark.

It's really frustrating. I just want to keep studying, but I cant.
Does anyone here have ANY ideas how to possibly solve this issue? I would be eternally grateful.

PS: It seems to be a very common issue, but the solutions on the internet seem to work for most people, just not me.

Interesting. Did you managed to tun off Hyper-V?

Hyper-V feature really is annoying & confusing. If you couldn't turn it off, reinstalling Windows might be the last resort to remove Hyper-V. Reinstalling Windows is fast nowadays.

I also unchecked all the relevant folders under Windows Features:

How about Virtual Machine Platform, Windows Hypervisor Platform?

and probably WSL - Windows Subsystem for Linux

You tried everything, so...

If you don't want to reinstall Windows, you can try install a portable Windows To Go using Rufus onto a USB drive and boot from it and see if it solves anything, so you don't have to touch existing installation.

BTW, do you have CPU-Z screenshot? This is mine

For what exactly. I know i have 3 Options for SVM. I will edit here the names and status.

EDIT:

SVM Mode - Enabled
SVM Lock - Auto
SVM Enable - Auto

Motherboard: Asus B650E-E Gaming Wifi
Looks OK

My msinfo32:
Virtualization-based security Not enabled
Windows Defender Application Control policy Enforced
Windows Defender Application Control user mode policy Off
Device Encryption Support Elevation Required to View
Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware Yes
Hyper-V - Data Execution Protection Yes

(Hyper-V feature not enabled at all on my pc)

No idea what exactly was wrong with your installation.

msinfo32:

Virtualization-based security Running

Automatic Device Encryption Support Elevation Required to View

A hypervisor has been detected. Features required for Hyper-V will not be displayed.

Here is the thing. VBS is still running...

After doing the steps described in Phase 3 on this Site i finally got VBS disabled. Also CPU-Z is now showing AMD-V in CPU Instructions.

https://community.broadcom.com/vmwa...st-to-get-vmware-17s-cpl0-vs-ulm-monitor-mode

I will edit when I reinstalled GNS3VM and everything (hopefully) works.

EDIT:

I tried to reinstall GNS3 , this time getting an unknown ERROR while it s trying to connect to the GNS3VM. msinfo32 still show VBS disabled but now instead different Hyper-V Items with Value "Yes"

Conclusion: I hate Windows 11
