You child domain servers must be able to resolve the
parent (and sibling) domain(s) too....

This requires having either a common parent for them
to search or forward to, or having each child domain
also hold a copy of the parent (or one of the equivalent
features from Win2003.)

Think it through while you are fixing it: The clients
machines ask their own DNS server, "What's X's IP?",
if it knows the answer it just says X=IP, but if it doesn't
know the answer it needs to find it from the parent, or
even by going to the parent and finding another delegated
sibling etc.

Bottom line: Every internal DNS server must be able to
resolve every internal name for things to really work right.

This is a delegation and is correct.
Now, forward the child DNS to the parent DNS so the child DNS can resolve
the parent domain.

What happens when you run the NSLookup tests I gave you elsewhere
in this thread?

Does the Parent server(s) return the NS records for the delegated
child correctly?

Are those children actually running DNS with the correct zones
configured etc....

OK, let's try this again, read inline

This folder is supposed to be gray, it is not a folder, it is a delegation.
It is there so the parent DNS can resolve the child domain. Do not delete
it, leave it alone as long as it has the NS record for the child DNS.

This is not relevant. Do this, on the child DNS, on the Forwarders tab set a
Forwarder to your parent DNS server. Then check the box on that tab, "Do not
use recursion". This prevents your child DNS from trying to use root hints
to find the parent zone.
