I am trying to build a small domain at home. I have 2 windows 7 machines and i am the administrator.
I get this same error.

What else could it be other than administrator privledges? :pfff:

Windows 7 enterprise N...but i solved the issue. The key i found that worked was to input the ip of the dns server into the tcp/ip of the nic. Worked like a charm. No DHCP needed, the router handles that.

Or you could simply add the DNS server IP address to the DHCP configuration on whatever device is handling your DHCP requests. Then when the DHCP server (or router in your case) is replying back with the IP address lease assignment, it will also pass along the DNS server address(es) and default gateway address.
